One reason behind these attitudes is that Taiwan is largely homogeneous and it's still unsure of how to assimilate foreigners into its society - 95% are Han Chinese, 2.5% indigenous people, and around 2.5% immigrants, with most of these being Southeast Asian migrant workers.
