Kia Sorento Accelerator Sticks, Forces Women to Drive 119 Miles Per Hour in Busy Traffic Video

It was a scary time for Lauri Ulvestad, 47, of Ames Iowa when a typical day of driving turned into a nightmare when her 2011 Kia Sorento experienced a stuck accelerator. She was driving along Interstate 35 in Missouri if any of you in that neck of the woods think you caught the action. Lucky for her she had some great driving skills because not many daily drivers would be able to maintain speeds of 119 miles per hour, in traffic, in a construction zone no less and walk away without a scratch, and zero vehicle damage. Lauri was able to call for police assistance and two cruisers did their best to keep up with her and attempt to clear traffic out of the way.
Sheldon Lyon, Patrol spokesman praised her by saying, “Not only to drive fast, but to go into the median, pull back up into the passing lane and hit that asphalt lip — and not overcorrect — it was really amazing to see her do that repeatedly. There was some talk about if she threw the key fob out the window, would the car shut off. We’re trying to look at that so in the future, if this comes up again, we’ll have more experience with the key fob or proximity key.”
Lauri was unable to shut the car off by pushing the push button start/stop and couldn’t get it to shift into neutral. It seems everything she was trying, just wasn’t doing the trick and honestly at 119 miles per hour in traffic, doing anything else but killing yourself or other’s on the road would be something you wouldn’t want to stop doing for even a second. She finally was able to get the car to stop by pulling up on the accelerator and pushing the brake. As you can imagine, that would feel like an extremely risky move to make when you have to keep your eyes on the road and have split second response time to avoid a crash.
