Blue Jays top 3.5 million Sportsnet viewers for playoff openers

Playing before sellout crowds of 44,000 plus at the Rogers for the first two gam
es of the American League Division Series against the New York Yankees has drawn
 massive television audiences for Canadian broadcaster Sportsnet.

According to the network, Saturday’s series opener drew an average of 3.6 milli
on which was followed by 3.5 million on Sunday when 22-year-old Blue Jays rookie
 Trey Yesavage no-hit the Yankees through 5.1 innings in a 13-7 Toronto win. In
total, the network reports that 9.5 million Canadians tuned into the games at so
me point as the Jays burst out to a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five regular season.

As for the playoff numbers, the expectation is that the Jays audience will conti
nue to grow significantly the deeper they go. Considering that both games thus f
ar were weekend affairs with 4:08 p.m. starts, they’ve yet to hit prime time. A
s well, Game 2 was going head-to-head with NFL coverage.

More perspective: Games 1 and 2 of the Stanley Cup final between the Edmonton Oi
lers and Florida Panthers this past spring drew audiences of 4 million and 4.2 m
illion respectively. Both of those games were played in prime time, of course.

The numbers are expected to grow if the storylines remain strong, even with the
start this week of the NHL season.

ampa Bay Rays was the most-watched regular-season Jays broadcast in the history
of the franchise. According to the network, Game 162 of the 2025 season drew an
average audience of 2.35 million viewers.

With the late surge of the team and the growing audiences through the late summe
r months, the average audience for the full season was 906,800 per game, a whopp
ing 51% gain over last season when the team faded to last place

Also of note, the popularity of the Jays broadcasts showed huge gains in a coupl
e of valuable demographic areas. Audiences in the age 18-34 category jumped by 3
2% while female viewership showed a 46% gain.

值得注意的是，藍鳥隊在幾個關鍵的收視族群中有明顯成長

18至34歲年齡層的觀眾增加了32%

女性觀眾的收視率則大幅上升46%
