Vladimir Putin’s surprise phone call to Donald Trump on Thursday appeared to
undercut Ukrainian hopes of receiving Tomahawk missiles as Volodymyr Zelenskyy
 heads to Washington to meet the US president and discuss the issue.

克宮高級助理烏沙科夫表示，是普丁主動致電，這段期間俄國希望美國不要提供戰斧飛彈
—這項烏克蘭一直想要的遠程武器，範圍囊括莫斯科。

The Kremlin’s top aide, Yuri Ushakov, said Putin had initiated the conversati
on with Trump, during which the Russian leader urged his US counterpart not to
 supply Ukraine with the Tomahawk missiles – a weapon long sought by Kyiv tha
t would give it its longest-range strike capability yet and bring Moscow withi
n reach.

這次川普本任期第八次已知通話，俄烏兩邊為得到川普支持需展開複雜且難解的競爭，但
又是熟悉的套路模式。

It was the eighth known call between the two men since Trump began his second
term in January, and followed a familiar pattern in the complex and often conf
using contest between Putin and Zelenskyy for Trump’s ear.

此前當川普要親歐洲時，普丁常能軟化川普。

On previous occasions, when Trump had seemed ready to tilt towards Kyiv and it
s European allies, a call from Putin was often followed by a sudden softening
in the US leader’s tone towards Moscow.

前陣子川普對俄國不滿，想提供烏克蘭戰斧飛彈，但週四晚上後又又又退縮了。

After strikingly voicing his frustrations with Putin in recent weeks and hinti
ng that he was ready to supply Zelenskyy with Tomahawk missiles, Trump on Thur
sday night appeared to row back.

川普在辦公室對記者說：我有很多戰斧飛彈，但我們也需要他們，不能為了烏克蘭耗盡它
們；我也不知道能做什麼。

“We need Tomahawks for the United States of America too. We have a lot of the
m but we need them. I mean, we can’t deplete for our country,” Trump told re
porters in the Oval Office. “I don’t know what we can do about that,” he ad
ded.

重提對普丁的談話：我給烏克蘭幾千枚戰斧飛彈，你介意嗎！？

Recounting his conversation with Putin, Trump said: “I did actually say: ‘Wo
uld you mind if I gave a couple of thousand Tomahawks to your opposition?’ I
did say that to him. I said it just that way.

他很明顯不喜歡，有時你需要輕鬆點。

“He didn’t like the idea. You have to be a little bit lighthearted sometimes
.”

川普週五會告訴小澤談話內容。

Trump said he would tell Zelenskyy what he and Putin had discussed when he met
 the Ukrainian president on Friday.

After Putin’s call, Trump also announced that he was planning to meet the Rus
sian president in the Hungarian capital on a date still to be determined, in a
n effort to end the war.

克宮發言人佩斯科夫週五上午表示：時間可能在兩週後或更晚。

Putin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, on Friday morning said that the summit c
ould take place “within two weeks or later”.

佩斯科夫：普丁已跟奧班討論此事。
奧班不同其他歐洲領導人，他跟普丁川普的關係密切。奧班自己也在X披露此事。

Peskov said Putin had already discussed the planned meeting with Viktor Orb嫕,
 the Hungarian prime minister. Orb嫕 – an outlier among European leaders with
 warm ties to Trump and Putin – said he had also spoken to Trump about the su
mmit, writing on X: “Preparations for the USA-Russia peace summit are under w
ay.”

有鑒於普丁被國際通緝中，他要怎麼去匈牙利還未知。作為國際刑事法院締約國，匈牙利
有責任逮捕普丁，但奧班曾表示他才不理。

It remains unclear how Putin would travel to Hungary, given EU sanctions and a
irspace restrictions imposed after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, as well as t
he fact that he is wanted by the international criminal court (ICC). As a sign
atory to the ICC, Hungary would be obliged to arrest him, though Orb嫕 has pre
viously said this would not happen.

克宮發言人：還不知道前往匈牙利的方式。

When asked about the logistical challenges, Peskov said the route was “so far
, of course, unclear”.

匈牙利外長週五表示：匈牙利是主權獨立國家，不用跟任何人討論此事，我們會好好接待
普丁，為達成協議努力。

Hungary’s foreign minister, P彋er Szijj嫫t said on Friday that Putin would
be able to enter and leave the country. “There is no need for any kind of con
sultation with anyone, we are a sovereign country here. We will receive [Putin
] with respect, host him and provide the conditions for him to negotiate with
the American president,” he told a press briefing.

上次阿拉斯加會談沒有成果，川普表示下週雙方會有高層會談，由國務卿盧比奧主持，之
後在布達佩斯舉行雙普會。

Trump and Putin last met in Alaska in August, which did not produce a diplomat
ic breakthrough. Trump added that fresh high-level talks between Washington an
d Moscow would be held next week, led on the US side by the secretary of state
, Marco Rubio, before a presidential summit in Budapest.

在2.5小時電話後，澤倫斯基的到訪感覺涼了，川普不太可能在跟普丁見面前，給他太多
協助。

The latest conversation, which lasted more than two and a half hours, appears
to have sapped the momentum Zelenskyy had built with Trump, with the US leader
 now unlikely to show major support for Ukraine before meeting Putin.

“Zelenskyy must be pulling his hair out. Today’s meeting with Trump is now c

man, a former British defence attache to Moscow and Kyiv.

Trump also has hinted that talks between Putin and Zelenskyy may need to take
place indirectly, contradicting Zelenskyy’s longstanding aim of meeting Putin
 face to face to end the war.

“They don’t get along too well, those two,” Trump said. “So we may do some
thing where we’re separate. Separate but equal.”

Ushakov, on his part, told reporters in Moscow that Putin warned Trump during
the call that supplying Kyiv with Tomahawks “won’t change the situation on t
he battlefield, but would cause substantial damage to the relationship between
 our countries”.

澤倫斯基到美後，與軍火商見面，沒有發表意見。但基輔大多表示悲觀。

Zelenskyy, who touched down in Washington on Thursday and met US defence contr
actors before his White House visit, has not commented on the Putin-Trump call
, though few in Kyiv are likely to view it positively.

Some Ukrainian officials tried to put a positive spin on the call, saying that
 Putin’s outreach underscored the Russian leader’s fear of new Ukrainian wea
pon supplies.

“Today’s call between US President Donald Trump and Putin demonstrates how e
ven the discussion about Tomahawk missiles had already forced Putin back into
dialogue with America,” Andrii Sybiha, Ukraine’s foreign minister, wrote on
X. “The conclusion is that we need to continue with strong steps. Strength ca
n truly create momentum for peace.”.

儘管莫斯科一再聲稱尋求和平，但看不到跡象。

While Moscow has repeatedly claimed it is ready to end its invasion of Ukraine
, Putin has shown no indication that he is seeking compromise or to scale back
 his maximalist goal of forcing Kyiv’s capitulation.

不同川普，副總統萬斯沒那麼樂觀：還要更努力才能達成協議。

Despite Trump’s typically upbeat rhetoric that peace may be within reach, the
 US vice-president, JD Vance, struck a more cautious note on Thursday, saying
that “the Russians and the Ukrainians are just not at the point where they ca
n make a deal”, and that a settlement “remains possible but will require a l
ot more work”.

萬斯接受採訪：俄國常常認為戰場上表現好於實際狀況。

In an interview with the conservative network Newsmax, Vance spoke of what he
called a “misalignment of expectations”, saying “the Russians tend to think
 they’re doing better on the battlefield than they actually are”.
