【筆記】即便是小說改編影集的考量

美國眾神的影集整個就是劇情魔改得亂七八糟還更狗血、重口味、人物關係亂牽

漫畫版/圖像小說版可以看得出為了格數問題等因素而做了點刪減，但整體故事還是照著原本的劇情走

但影集就不是。其實小說那樣的劇情要照改成影集完全沒問題，但劇組卻不是這樣想。

So in the book, one of the gods Shadow meets is the Hindu goddess Kali. She is, however, referred to as "Mama-ji."

The problems is, "mama-ji" in Hindi is a respectful term for "maternal uncle." I suspect Gaiman meant to call her "mata-ji", which is a respectful term for "mother." Kali is definitely called "mata-ji" by some devotees.

As this Twitter exchange demonstrates, Gaiman himself is aware of this, but has explained it as "American pidgin." While I respect him tremendously and love his work, I have to think this is kind of a cop-out :p

I would love for Kali, if she appears, to be referred to as mata-ji, not as "respected uncle", lol. Or just call her Kali, or Kali-ma, or Kalika, or one of her other numerous titles. :p

Just a small wish that I hope is granted :)

The little boy stared up at Shadow with eyes that held only pain. And Shadow thought to himself, of course.

That’s as good a way as any other of making a tribal god. He did not have to be told. He knew. You take a baby and you bring it up in the darkness, letting it see no one, touch no one, and you feed it well as the years pass, feed it better than any of the village’s other children, and then, five winters on, when the night is at its longest, you drag the terrified child out of its hut and into the circle of bonfires, and you pierce it with blades of iron and of bronze. Then you smoke the small body over charcoal fires until it is properly dried, and you wrap it in furs and carry it with you from encampment to encampment, deep in the Black Forest, sacrificing animals and children to it, making it the luck of the tribe. When, eventually, the thing falls apart from age, you place its fragile bones in a box, and you worship the box; until one day the bones are scattered and forgotten, and the tribes who worshipped the child-god of the box are long gone; and the child-god, the luck of the village, will be barely remembered, save as a ghost or a brownie: a kobold.

Bicameral mentality is a hypothesis introduced by Julian Jaynes who argued human ancestors as late as the ancient Greeks did not consider emotions and desires as stemming from their own minds but as the consequences of actions of gods external to themselves. The theory posits that the human mind once operated in a state in which cognitive functions were divided between one part of the brain that appears to be "speaking" and a second part that listens and obeys—a bicameral mind—and that the breakdown of this division gave rise to consciousness in humans.
