 【愛的危險】
　　
我想有許多社群媒體的使用者和我一樣，一面驚訝並著迷於它的便利、資訊流動的速度，以及人際關係的穿透力；一面又對它有一種莫名的情緒。那種情緒是揉合了恐慌、焦慮、愛與恨，自卑與自我的複雜結果，實在難以描述。
　
最近我讀完了美國小說家法蘭岑的《到遠方》，這本書有三分之一在談他的文學與社會觀點，三分之一在談賞鳥的野外經驗與報導，另三分之一則是對一些傑出文學的評論。在一篇凱尼恩學院畢業式的致詞〈痛，要不了命〉，某種程度解了我的惑。
　
法蘭岑先是提到，我們此刻在手機上滑動或兩指比劃的行為，在一百多年前的人看來就像是「魔法」，他認為科技消費主義確實在創造這樣一個宛如魔法的市場：找出消費者最想要的東西並給予回應。
　
我們的世界原本是「充斥著暴風雨、苦難和容易心碎的世界，會反抗的世界」，如今被換成對「願望一呼百應的世界」。科技消費主義的競爭對手是「真實的愛」，因此「為難愛」，便是它的主要策略。
　
　
它的第一道策略是把敵人（也就是愛）商品化。這個防禦手法歷史較久，比方說「鑽石恆久遠，一顆永留傳」式的廣告，就是把寶石跟愛與永恆畫上等號。因此你如果想對某人表現愛，就買東西給他。
　
對應在臉書上，就是「讚」（或其它現在演化出的新表情）意圖把人的心理狀態，變成滑鼠執行的動作。「讚」成了「愛」的替代品。
　
法蘭岑說，如果你把人生都奉獻在討人喜歡上，就意味著「你對真正的你是否能被愛感到絕望」。因為如果你順利地誘使他人喜歡你，「你就很難不對那些人感到某種程度的不屑」。
　
另一方面，科技又是自我的擴張，我們不會因為它容易操控而輕視它。「我們喜歡鏡子，鏡子喜歡我們。我們會用大量諂媚的鏡子布置自己的私人大廳，加某人為友，只是把他納入廳中。」
　
但法蘭岑認為這樣的情況並不長久，你遲早會發現自己「捲入驚聲尖叫的爭吵，會聽到你說出自己一點也不喜歡的話，會粉碎你公道、親切、酷、吸引人、自制、搞笑、令人喜愛的形象。」忽然之間，科技消費主義創造出的幻象破滅，你回到現實。
　
現實是：世上沒有哪個人的真實自我，讓你每絲每毫都願意按讚，「這就是為什麼『讚』的世界終究是個謊。」但世界上確實會有某人的真實自我，令你每絲每毫都愛。「這就是為什麼『愛』會是科技消費主義秩序存亡的威脅—它揭穿了那個謊。」
　
　
那麼，愛是什麼呢？法蘭岑說：「真正的愛是深不可測的同理心」，「對方的點點滴滴都和你一樣真實」，因此，愛總是有特定性。「試著去愛全人類或許是種高尚的情操，但妙就妙在，這反而會讓焦點集中在自己，專注於自己的道德或靈性是不是夠好。反之，要愛一個特定對象，要感同身受他們的掙扎與喜樂，你必須放棄一些自我。」
　
愛的危險是「拒絕」。我們可以接受偶爾「不被喜歡」，但當你暴露完整自我而不只是討人喜歡的表面，卻遭到拒絕，就可能痛不欲生。這是為什麼臉友不「愛」我們了，可以反擊回去，解除關係，封鎖他，有時還有點痛快。但那個看到我們「完整自我」的人，那個你愛的人拒絕你，會讓你感到「失去的痛、分手的痛、死去的痛」。這會讓我們避免去愛，只想安全地待在「讚」的世界裡。
　
但離了婚，告別那個23歲就愛上妻子的法蘭岑說，「痛固然痛，但要不了命」。當你考慮「放棄被科技點燃自信的醉人幻夢，痛，就成了活在你所抵抗的世界的自然產物及指標。無痛地度過人生，就等於沒有活過。」
　
　
但愛也有很多種。法蘭岑除了談愛一個人以外，也談他對大自然的愛。他說自己對鳥的愛成為一個入口，「通往心中一個重要、但沒那麼自我中心的部分」，過去他從不知道有這東西存在的地方。在經歷過環境運動的傷害，與獵人、盜獵者的相遇，以及各種事件以後，法蘭岑說：「過去那麼容易在我心底蔓延的全面性憎惡，已不再那麼輕易滋長了。」
　
過去他自己總是待在房間裡憤慨、冷笑或聳肩，但這世界的問題依然驚心動魄。「但當你走出去，讓自己和真實的人，甚或只是真實的動物發展真實的關係以後，你便會面臨非常真實的危險：最後可能交付出『愛』的危險。」但這不知道會發生什麼事的付出，就是你活著的證明。
　
　
我常在課堂上，提醒一些強調自己多麼關心各種「正義」，滿口理論的學生，他們此刻的「愛」並不真實，用法蘭岑的話來說，這樣的「愛」可能愛的是「焦點集中在自己，專注於自己的道德或靈性是不是夠好」這件事上而已。因為即使是貌似「正義那一方的世界」，也是一個「充斥著暴風雨、苦難和容易心碎的世界」；一個聖徒會欺騙、假冒、奪取與傷害的世界。當然，包括你我在內。
　
我想起上周小說家黃麗群來演講的題目〈不要隨意隨口對文學聲稱愛，那只會讓你像個傻頭傻腦的負心漢〉，也許也是來自同樣的道理。真實的關係會面臨真實的危險，對文學宣稱愛，其中一個就是「交付出真實的愛（不光只是按讚）的風險」，另一個就是自己成為負心漢的風險。
