【沈政男】讀經濟學的日子

台大經濟系教授張清溪過世了。他最有名是寫了附圖的那本經濟學教科書，初版在1987，我手頭上有的則是第二版。

這幾天大家在講的「四人幫」，就是合寫這本書的四位台大經濟系教授，其中劉鶯釧也已過世。

但我讀經濟學，或者說是自修，不是從這一本開始。在「四人幫」教科書之前，最有名的本土經濟學教科書是什麼？

講不出來了吧。林鐘雄的《經濟學》，綠皮精裝，每一章開頭都引用了一段《約翰克里斯多夫》，令人印象深刻。

林鐘雄也寫了《貨幣銀行學》，也是暢銷書，而這兩本財經教科書，我就讀台中一中的時候都讀過，其中那本綠皮經濟學是自己買，但後來弄丟了。

為什麼高中時代要讀經濟學？注意，那是解嚴前的事了。因為我那時政治意識啟蒙，但又不想接收黨外雜誌那一套，於是自己找來政經社法大學用書，想要建立自己的社科思想體系，用來解析台灣政經社法問題。

大學聯考結束隔天，我就到精武路上的台中省立圖書館七樓，讀經濟學原文教科書。當然是讀不了幾頁，因為英文還不夠好，閱讀速度很慢。

後來又去重考，於是整個自修過程也耽擱下來。然而，第二年進到台大醫學系以後，我馬上到公館的雙葉書廊買了原文經濟學教科書，薩謬爾森的《經濟學》，在男十一舍113室，自己在那邊亂讀一通。

你去看「四人幫」的寫法，顯然受到了薩謬爾森那本《經濟學》的影響。如果說「四人幫」是台灣最暢銷的經濟學教科書，那麼薩謬爾森那本就是全世界最暢銷的經濟學教科書了。

薩謬爾森那本最有名的一段內容是：鑽石為什麼比水貴？

你如果可以回答這個問題，大概個體經濟學已經讀懂了一半，但經濟學家當初為了回答這個問題，發展了好多理論，包括邊際效用遞減、效用極大化、無意曲線等，而薩謬爾森的貢獻就在於提出了顯示性偏好理論，為整個消費者理論，包括無異曲線怎麼畫出來，奠下了一個更堅實的科學基礎。

自修的優點是可以利用零碎時間，缺點則是難免鬆懈，三天打魚兩天曬網，於是當課業一忙，也就擱下來了。

到了醫學系五年級，我交了一位女友，剛好在台大經濟系當助理，那一段期間每天中午或傍晚都會往他們的系館跑，於是多少也知道了他們的一些教授。

當時最有名是陳師孟，因為他發起了「廢除刑法一百條」運動，好多台大法學院教授都有參與，當然也包括張清溪。

陳師孟是陳布雷的孫子，這一點台中一中的國文老師鄭詠在課堂上有跟我們提起。鄭老師在課堂上經常提到蔣家與李敖，無意間啟蒙了我的政治意識，那是高一的事了。

我的女友是林向愷的助理，而他當時已經開始參與民進黨的事了。他跟施明德很熟，那時施明德跟一位女作家正在交往，於是我也耳聞了一些八卦。朱敬一也常在系館見到，他是青年才俊，明日之星。另外一位明日之星是宋玉生，太太是張小虹，後來離婚了。吳聰敏看起來像是農家子弟、好好先生。

很巧的，當時我們台大醫學系有一位同學，念到一半突然要轉到台大經濟系，我記得這位同學要申請轉系前，幾個同學聚餐，我還賣弄一下，考了幾個經濟學問題。後來這位同學成了台大經濟系教授。

醫學院畢業以後，我到了一個不像醫院的的醫院工作，整天閒閒沒事，於是又開始念經濟學了。那時，我又回到台大公館的雙葉書廊，買了原文的個體經濟學與總體經濟學教科書各一本，其中個體那本，我到現在都沒有翻，而總體那本，則是鼎鼎大名的麥坤《總體經濟學》。

麥坤那本是薩謬爾森之後最暢銷的經濟學教科書，到現在都還是很多老師使用。那本我是讀了大半，但也沒有全部讀完，十幾年前支援離島醫療，閒閒沒事又拿起來讀了一下。

一直自修經濟學的理由，是文史哲與政經社法，我只剩這一塊，就能拚起我自己的人文與社科思想體系，也對公共議題有一個基本的科學解析能力。

於是好一陣子，在住院醫師期間，我是一邊讀佛洛伊德，一邊讀總體經濟學。

老實說，經濟學的東西並沒有那麼好念！有些概念是天才的產物，比如整個消費者理論，那想像力與原創性，幾乎可以媲美牛頓力學了。

至於總體經濟學，那是凱因斯的偉大發明，就更不用說了。

又因為是自修，老實說念得對不對，也是只能想當然爾了。

幾年前我回到台大念心理學碩士班，有了修課機會，於是馬上挑了個體經濟學，上下學期共六學分，紮紮實實念了一年。那位老師是英文授課，用的是一本很薄的個經原文書，精簡清楚，讀起來相當有效率。那位老師專攻賽局理論，於是好大篇幅都在講賽局，這是三、四十年前的教科書不會提到的理論。

我也選修了台大財金系的投資學，晚上在管理學院上課，那位老師是MIT出身，都是講數學模型，根本聽不懂。

差不多就這樣了。

喔，我也曾在台大公衛系選修健康經濟學，對於個經應用在健保，也有了一番認識。

還有，上學期我在陽明交大也選修了神經經濟學 ，裡頭也提到了效用理論。當然對於展望理論也再次複習了一下。

經濟學的重點主題是選擇與決策，而這牽涉心理學與腦科學，於是也在這個層面上跟我的本科所學產生關聯了。

比如我上學期所做的實驗，就是要探討所謂的偏好反轉現象，也就是兩個樂透讓你選，你會選中獎機率高那張，但如果你有一張樂透要賣，這時你反而會注意中獎金額，而不是中獎機率。

就這樣。繼續來念經濟學吧！真的，你如果沒有基本的經濟分析能力，那麼你對公共議題的評論，我是不會看的。

Sharon Jackson, the Belfast woman who went to her own wake

"Instead of sorrow it's a chance for me to have a party and savour life in the moment."

That is how Sharon Jackson described organising her own wake, which she held at the weekend after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The north Belfast woman said she came up with the idea of an "awake wake" after speaking about it to a friend.

The event was a "celebration of life... rather than being dark about the whole situation", she added.

"Why would I miss something like that? Getting all my friends together in one place," she said.

Sharon was 53 when she was given her prognosis in 2016.

Since then, she has remained focused on the positive side of life and has also organised her funeral arrangements, including decorating her coffin with photographs of family and friends.

'There will be no goodbyes'
Speaking before the event, Sharon said: "It'll be a knees up with good memories and me being present in the moment for it.

"I've asked friends to write obituaries which are to be funny, dark, and sarcastic. They've all agreed to that and they'll be read out on the night.

"On the night there will be no goodbyes. It's too upsetting. I want friends to leave on a note of laughter."

'Don't let cancer dictate to you'
On Saturday night it was her chance to have a final party with those loved ones.

The following morning she described the wake as "epic".

"It was filled with joy, humour, love, and everything I expected," she said.

"We played music until 02:00."

Sharon was upbeat and keen to pass on a message to others who have terminal cancer.

"Celebrate life. Don't let cancer dictate to you that it's the end," she said.

"The worst thing that you can possibly do is to go down that dark hole of depression, thinking your life is over.

"It's not. You can have that party - celebrate with family and friends and embrace your life that you've had with them."

上週末穿著他做的T恤外出結果被人告知他已去世，震驚迷惑之餘今天問了與他關係較為密切的友人證實他已離世，但死因未明也無法聯繫上他家人，網路上也找不到任何資訊，所以想說就幫忙發篇文公告，如果有人知道他去世真正的原因還麻煩再留意告知。

Funeral leaving his home, 7 Greenwood Avenue, Prehen on Monday 12th September at 9:20am to St. Columba’s Church, Longtower for Requiem Mass at 10:00am. Interment afterwards in the City Cemetery.
