Taurus Forecast for January 2014

A new moon of January 1 will light your house of travel, so at this moment, you may be reading your January forecast from your hotel balcony, sipping your coffee as you look out upon a beautiful mountainous view. The new moon of January 1 will appear in the sign so compatible to yours, dear Taurus - Capricorn (11 degrees), an earth sign like yours (which is why I am imagining mountains). A crowd of planets, including Venus, Mercury, and also the Sun will accompany the new moon, all urging you to pack and go.

The ninth house is a very intellectually broadening house that encourages travel, learning, justice, and spirituality. It also encourages the sharing of information through teaching, public speaking, publishing, or broadcasting. I have always felt that the ninth house lifts us above the all too-predictable, regular routine of life to envision something more. This part of the chart encourages us to think big, and so it will for you too, this month, dear Taurus.

There are many ways you can use this new moon's energy, which will be operative during the first ten days of February. You might be getting ready to go back to the university as a student, or take a major qualifying exam. You may be defending your thesis in early February, or applying for a research grant. If you work in publishing or broadcasting, an important project may come up, so if you are a writer, editor, or producer, or work in other parts of the media, you may be very busy from the moment the year begins. Legal matters are also encouraged, and if you've been meaning to file a trademark, or patent, this would be the time to do so. If you want a visa or green card, or a new passport, this new moon will be the right time to get the process started. Do so in early January.

This new moon is flawed, however, in that Uranus will send challenges, and so will Mars. Work may be demanding and distracting, and it seems that even if you are away, you seem to have to direct others and take care of things that are going on at the office. Keep your health up to par, for you may be drained, even though you may be away on vacation. Try to make this a relaxing trip. If you have a romantic partner, this is a good time to devote quality time to one another, as Saturn will be so comfortingly angled to this new moon.

If your birthday falls on May 1, plus or minus five days, you will feel this new moon the most and be most likely to be able to find ways to benefit from it. The same is true if you have Taurus rising at 11 degrees (plus or minus five degrees) or have a natal planet in Taurus, Virgo, or Capricorn, or to a slightly lesser degree, in Cancer, Scorpio, or Pisces with the same degree tolerance.

Venus is still retrograde as you enter this month (a holdover from December 21) and will turn direct January 31. This means you will go through January with your ruler, Venus, retrograde, so you should focus on things already on your plate, and not start new ventures, not until just after January 31.

After that, Mercury will retrograde next month, February 6 to 28, and after that, Mars will retrograde March 1 to May 19. You would assume things would be ready to roll after that, but no, Mercury will retrograde June 7 to July 1. Big cosmic storms roll in during the first week of July. Each planet rules a different area of life, so we all will still function, but the main message will be to finish up present obligations rather than generate new ones. Indeed, 2014 will have a slow start. Be patient. This will give you a chance to look over what you've done and make everything even better. I love mid-to-end of July for launching very important new ventures.

This month, because Venus is the planet of beauty and good looks, delay any plastic surgery, as anything having to do with your face would need a good, strong Venus, not a weak one as it is now. Choose new sunglasses or eyeglasses in the first days of February and use your old ones in the meantime. (Here, I am speaking of those who see eyewear as a fashion experience, as I do. If your eyeglass prescription changed, of course, get your glasses today!) It's fine to have hair trims and color touchups, and to follow all good grooming, but refrain from having a radical change to your hairstyle or color. Men, this is not the time to grow a beard or shave one off. When it comes to your looks, keep to the status quo until February 1.

If you are doing serious plastic surgery that you are electing to do, wait until mid-to-late July, August, or September. December is a possibility, too. (From October 4 to 25, Mercury will go retrograde again for the last time this year.)

Venus also rules your solar sixth house of work projects, so you may find that you are subject to several re-do's. Go with the flow - we are all in this together.

January 11 should be a sweet weekend day to travel or to do something special with your partner, such as to enjoy a beautiful dinner out in the evening. Venus and Saturn will be very friendly, and moreover, the Sun in Capricorn will be beautifully angled to Saturn in Scorpio. You may be able to find a bargain if you shop for something for the home together. Your solar ninth house will still be lit up, and it's called the house of philosophy, so you may want to hear a lecture or go to a book signing that will open your mind to more of life's possibilities.

If you were not able to get away in the first week or two of January, you will get a second chance to do so at the full moon, January 15. This is a very friendly full moon in Cancer and will help you pack and go to a place a little closer to home, say, within a four-hour plane ride or that allows you to reach your destination within a day's drive or train ride. Because the full moon will be in watery Cancer (a sign that blends perfectly with your Sun, as water and earth makes flowers), you will want to visit a place near the sea or a body of water.

The same full moon January 15 can help you finish an important report, thesis, manuscript, or other communication-oriented project. Redo your company logo, join social media, and design your page, or order business cards. If you are self-employed, send out your direct mail advertising, or make a YouTube or Vine video - you might make money. When it comes to travel or communication, this is your moment to shine.

Saturn will be well angled to the full moon January 15, so if you are working on finding accord with a business partner, or hope to enter into an agreement, Saturn will help you keep the relationship in place a long time. Be sure you want a long relationship! Venus might lower profits a bit to the deal you are entering, as Venus is also tied to financials and products / services aimed to women, so be sure your lawyer looks over the papers you want to sign before you do. If you want to be super careful, then sign February 1, 2, or 5, prior to the day Mercury will go retrograde.

Mercury and Uranus - the two "light bulb" planets that can excite the brain to help you come up with superb idea - will work together on January 16. That energy will fall so close to the full moon that it will be boosted by the full moon (packaged together so to speak) so you will find that ideas come up.

You will benefit the most from the full moon of January 15 if your birthday falls on May 16, plus or minus five days. The same is true if you have Taurus rising at 26 degrees or a natal planet of that degree (plus or minus five degrees) in Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn, Pisces, Scorpio, or Cancer.

The end of the month, just after January 30, may turn out to be quite exciting for you in terms of career. The most important new moon of the year will occur then and light your solar tenth house of honors, awards, achievement, and fame sector in the ten days that follow the appearance of that new moon. All that you do in those ten days will have the power to affect you professionally in the entire year to come.

This will be a magical moment, when something may come up out of the blue. Uranus will be very active and supportive at the new moon, and that's the planet of surprise. You need to have your resume and if creative, your reel and portfolio, ready, for when you get the call it is likely to come out of thin air! In truth, of course, opportunity is born out of years of hard work, and then one day, reaches a tipping point when you are rewarded for all you've done. The day prior to this new moon may give you a tip off, January 29, when the Sun in Aquarius signals Uranus too, also in your house of fame and honors. (January 16 may also give you a signal that your name is coming up among top VIPs - good news about your career may arrive by month's end.)

You may get a chance to interview for a new position, and if so, it may take weeks or even months to land the position (all top jobs are like that). What matters is that you begin the process at the new moon, January 30. The fact that Venus will go direct January 31 is significant, because the gates will open for you then, and life will speed up. You may get positive publicity in the media.

The fact that Mercury will retrograde in February shouldn't worry you. It looks as though someone you used to work with from the past will call you to see if you are interested in working together again. Look to people who know you and believe in you - those are the ones who will help elevate your status now, not brand new people who don't know you.

In terms of love, with Venus retrograde in highly compatible Capricorn, you may be thinking of having reconciliation with a former love. That's a good idea. Any time you see the word "retrograde" it means to "go back" to a former situation, so if you are serious about mending the relationship with your past love, by all means, make contact.

Summary

Happy to have come through the holidays in one piece, you may now take a long, distant trip to rest up from that hectic period. If you have not had smooth relations with your spouse or sweetheart (possible, due to Saturn opposed to your Sun), a vacation would be the ideal way to enjoy one another in a pretty setting and to find ways to mend your relationship. If you are close, but your partner has been going through a hard time (a different manifestation possible with Saturn opposed to the Sun), you both would still benefit from a trip together. With Venus, Pluto, Mercury, Sun, and new moon all in your foreign people / foreign places / travel sector, you will get a chance to have fun together, free of cares back home. Also in early January, you may be working on an issue related to legal matters or higher education.

Don't expect things to move quickly, however, as Venus, your ruler, will be retrograde until January 31. This means you will have to show patience when projects that have moved forward at a good clip until now suddenly show glitches and snags that will need to be addressed.

The full moon in Cancer on January 15 may send you off traveling again, this time to a beautiful location or exciting city near water closer to home. You may go over the weekend of January 11-12 or 18-19. Either weekend would be a fine one for a fun time. Venus is currently in Capricorn all month, and although weak in retrograde, this planet of love and good looks will still help you by remaining in a fellow earth sign not only all of January, but through March 5. While this month is not the time to make radical changes to your appearance, it is a good time to schedule a spa treatment or do routine grooming that, at the end of the day, feels good, too.

Your work assignments will increase now that you have Mars, the energy planet, in your workaday sector, especially at the start of the month. Co-workers and those who report to you will likely be grouchy in early January and won't necessarily get along with one another, which is odd. Your co-workers may be out of sync and miss the more relaxing days they enjoyed at holiday time, but the pressure will be on you to get assignments done on time. You'll have to find ways to cajole them back into concentrating at the task at hand.

Two days are filled with sparkling energy to generate ideas: January 16 and January 29. Both win you gold stars at work when you contribute forward thinking visions.

At month's end, when you dress for work, look your best, for you are about to hear some of your biggest career news of 2014. Watch the ten days that follow the new moon, January 30, with your best days coming quickly - immediately after the new moon arrives. Uranus will be very strong at this new moon, so you won't see news coming when you get the call. This is very exciting. You need to help things along by redoubling your efforts to locate the ideal position for you and getting your foot in the door to interview. It may take months to get that new job, but what matters is you start at the end of January.

Keep in mind that each successive day after the new moon arrives on January 30 will become a little weaker than the day before. By the tenth day after, the new moon will have "spent" just about all her energy. Make early February work for you. Your reputation for excellence is growing far and wide - at this time you will see this to be true and others will, too.

Mars is in Libra in January and during coming months and will make you very busy at the office.

The need to take a post-holiday vacation may be very strong and if so, you might be able to leave just after the new moon January 1. A heavy workload a the office will press on you, so you will have to decide if going now is worthwhile or even smart.

While the first part of January may give you a chance to take a long distance trip, the full moon January 15 may allow you to travel to a place closer to home. If you do leave town, it will probably be before this full moon arrives, and you will return within four days of its appearance, January 15.

Decisions you make pertaining to your home or other property, or in regard to a parent, will stand the test of time January 11.

Happy career news may come to you on or near January 16 and 29, so have a polished resume ready. The tide is turning in your favor when it comes to your career, something you will see at month's end.

Moreover, your career is about to heat up in a bigger way later, as a result of the month's second new moon, January 30. An offer for a big position will come at an unexpected time, and out of the blue in the days following this new moon.

Venus retrograde will allow you to reconcile with a former love, if that thought sounds good to you.
