Gemini Forecast for January 2014

This January will have some very odd similarities to last January, a year ago. Again many planets will be stacking up in Capricorn in your eighth house of other people's money. You will be very much focused on money, but not the money that you receive as salary, but rather, on what I call "other people's money" that is often parsed out in one-time lumps (or several one-time parcels).

Some examples of the types of money that may consume your thinking now, especially during January's first two weeks, will be (pick one): taxes, the sorting out of an inheritance, filing for a settlement in a court case, dividing property in a divorce, petitioning for back child support, or filing for an insurance payout. Or, you may be involved with the sale of a valuable, possibly historic, possession or property of value from the past. There is always the possibility that you may be applying for a scholarship or university financial aid, talking to your banker for a loan, mortgage, or refinancing plan, or petitioning for venture capital. You get the idea.

Last year, you didn't have Mars, which can have an inflammatory effect when in hard angle to the new moon (as it is this month) causing a ruckus from your house of creativity, love, and children, to your house of other people's money. One of your children may need a hefty sum, or it may be a creative project that goes into overruns. Last year you didn't have, at the very same time, Uranus, a planet of unexpected developments in hard angle to this money house either, from Uranus' perch in your eleventh house of hopes and wishes. The eleventh house also rules your friends, another possible source of tension. Hence, no matter what happened last year in January, this year seems to bring slightly more difficult aspects. I tell you this so you can be on guard.

You must watch for identity theft, so if you can afford to do so, consider signing up on a watchdog service that will alert you if your credit report has been compromised. You need to be very vigilant about watching your credit report, and some free credit report services exist online. Or, this energy may manifest a different way, in that you may simply be concerned about paying off credit cards from holiday shopping, as the eighth house does rule financial obligations we have and that we promise we'd meet. Another possibility may be that you may be sending in tuition money or camp money for a child. Or, a family member may be out of work, and you may be the only one that person can rely on for sustenance.

Be careful to save and organize receipts in folders, should you suddenly be subject to a tax audit in January. If you are in the process of dividing property in a divorce, Uranus' hard angle may signify a contentious battle over what you and your soon-to-be-ex thinks is fair. Be represented by a skilled lawyer who will know how to protect you. I am not saying ALL these things will happen, but one might.

Sometimes when a lot of planets, plus a new moon, build up in one part of the chart, it does not mean an emphasis on money but rather surgery. You may now decide to go in to have a medical matter taken care of now. (If you want plastic surgery on your face, and it's not an emergency, wait until Venus is out of retrograde, January 31. Schedule it before Mercury goes retrograde February 6 to 28.)

With such a buildup of planets in Capricorn - Venus, Mercury, and Pluto, plus the Sun and new moon, January 1 (at 11 degrees) - you need to protect your bones. Keep walkways clear, especially at night, wear proper footwear when the weather is inclement, and if you live in a cold climate, watch for black ice, which can be nearly invisible. If you are wondering if you have osteoporosis, many bone density doctors use modern techniques, so investigate what's new, and see if your doctor thinks you are a candidate for an appointment.

If your dentist says it's time to do a little work on a tooth, do it immediately and it will be off your list. Of course, a dental exam would be wise. (No one should worry about seeing a dentist - new techniques will keep you comfy, even when it comes to x-rays - no more gagging! Yay!)

By the time you get to the full moon, January 15, your powerful emphasis on money will wind down within four days of this date (if not right on the date). This full moon is in Cancer, and will light your second house of earned income. You may receive a large check or discuss a deal that will make you good money in the future. This full moon will be very friendly to transiting Saturn in your sixth house of earned income, bringing events that will add to your sense of security, especially financially.

Mid-month would be a superb time to travel, and also the time to come up with original ideas, for on Thursday, January 16, Uranus in Aries and Mercury in its favorite sign, Aquarius, will work together.

Earlier in the month, I would like to point out the weekend of January 11-12 when the moon will be in communicative Gemini, so you may want to learn something new. The Sun in Capricorn and Saturn in Scorpio will be in perfect angles, so you may get an offer (or an idea) of how to make more money by doing an assignment that either comes up or that you seek and uncover. Networking this weekend would also be a good idea.

The end of the month will be exciting. It looks like you will head to the airport shortly after the new moon, January 30 in divine-for-Gemini sign of Aquarius (11 degrees). If you do travel, you will be heading quite far away. This new moon will be in ideal sync with surprise-a-minute Uranus, so all sorts of unexpected opportunities will come up as a result of travel, or as a result of study courses you may take. In terms of the latter, you may embark on a series of classes that you sign up for AFTER this new moon appears.

If you hope to defend your thesis, this new moon will help you hit that home run. Apply for a grant, take a major qualifying exam, or give a speech in the days that follow. Many Gemini are very talented writers or editors, and if that describes you, publishing and/or broadcasting projects will come up now and be too good to pass up. Something about the project on the table will be different from ones you've done before, and happily this project will have your name written all over it. This is a very exciting moment of the month!

If your birthday falls on June 1, plus or minus five days, or if you have Gemini rising at 11 degrees (or close to that degree), or a planet at 11 degrees of Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius, or a little less powerful, a natal planet at the same degree in Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius, you will benefit from this new moon. Find ways to use it to your full advantage!

The day before the new moon (January 30) arrives, on January 29, the Sun and Uranus will be in lovely angle. Put several gold stars on it! It is a great day for speaking, traveling, writing, experimenting, selling, advertising, publicity - any communication will work out well!

Venus is still retrograde, a holdover from December 21, and won't go direct until January 31. Venus rules beauty and appearance, so if you were thinking of having plastic surgery, delay that procedure for a while. Whenever you do anything for your face, such as for women to choose new makeup, or men or women choosing new eyewear, it's better to wait until Venus is moving direct. (If you lose your makeup in a taxi or need a hair trim, by all means, do it. It's just not a good idea to go from blonde to black, for example, or from long hair to a pixie cut. If your eye doctor says you need a new eyeglass prescription, get it now.) Spa treatments will be more fun after Venus goes direct.

Venus is in retrograde in Capricorn, which is a big money sign, so you may find checks due you will be delayed. You might as well send reminder statements early in the month, before too much time goes by.

Next month, your ruling planet, Mercury, will be retrograde from February 7 to 28, when you will be subject to different kinds of delays. If you have to sign a contract, do it February 1 if possible. The impending move of Mercury retrograde behooves you to work on tasks and finish up old obligations. It will take awhile until you can move forward on new ventures, probably in July - but the first half of the year will be ideal for tying up loose ends of 2013. Many of the relationships and ventures you started last year are valuable, so focus on those before you venture out for new ones. As experts say, you can do well with people who already know and trust you - in love or business, pay those people more attention.

In terms of love, Venus rules Libra, the sign on your solar fifth house of true love. If you feel the pacing of your relationship has been too quick, you can slow it down. A retrograde planet will often prompt a reassessment, and often also a change of mind, one way or the other. The point is, when it comes to love, you have time. Reflect on the state of affairs, and think things over. The right answer will appear to you.

Summary

As January dawns, you will need to take care of financial matters. You may have become determined to file your taxes early, a good idea. The new moon of January 1 will give you the motivation to gather your documents and schedule an appointment with your accountant before other clients crowd her schedule. Five cosmic bodies in Capricorn will help you focus on monetary matters while at the same time, Saturn will lend gifts of long-term stability. The caveat is that you must make monetary matters a priority as early as possible in the first half of January.

This is also a good time to look at your annual credit report. If you find an inaccuracy, fix it quickly. You may also want to meet with your financial advisor to make needed changes to your retirement portfolio or savings.

With Jupiter, giver of gifts and luck, in your income sector, you can generate handsome profits, but you would have to be willing to do your due diligence and investigate your options. By the full moon in Cancer, January 15, you'll be ready to finish your focus on money. You may receive a large check, or send out one - or both. Money comes in and out, but if you played your cards right, you will end up in the black.

Also this month, there'll be a strong emphasis on your health. Be practical when choosing footwear, especially when it is cold or you visit cold climates. Planets in Capricorn (five in all) will put extra emphasis on your bones, teeth, skin, and eyes. Schedule an exam with your dentist, dermatologist, and eye doctor to find out if any action is needed.

By the new moon in Aquarius, January 30 (yes, we have two new moons this month!) you will be able to turn your attention away from serious matters. Travel seems very likely, very soon, and with Uranus so beautifully angled, it will be amazing fun - much more than you expect! If you get a chance to pack and go, do it!

Romantically, Venus, the ruler of your love zone, will be retrograde all month. You may have second thoughts about someone you are dating, or put the breaks on a relationship that you now feel has been moving ahead too quickly. This is a good time to rethink a relationship. Mars is now touring your house of new relationships and is a sign you're open to meeting new people. Go slowly though, as you seem to need to establish a strong link as "friends first." Don't let anyone new push you to become more involved than you want to be. If attached, your partner will do well financially, providing you both many options of things to do together and little luxuries you can now afford.

Most romantic dates, and days you can use for other key initiations too: January 11, 12, 16, 17, 25, 26, 29, and 30.

Finances will be on your mind from the very first day of the year, thanks to the new moon January 1 + two weeks.

Do what you can to strengthen bones and teeth, for five planets in Capricorn are encouraging you to do so. It would be an ideal time to make an appointment with your dentist. Also, ask your doctor if any baseline tests are necessary to test your bone density.

By January 15, the full moon you may be ready to conclude financial life changes and arrangements started earlier in the month. With Saturn friendly, you can stabilize your resources and feel good that you've gone over your insurance and retirement account needs and have things ship shape. Get advice from a trusted financial advisor.

The weekend of January 11-12 should be fun and productive, for the Sun and Saturn will be in friendly alignment.

They are two special days for you to use to your advantage: January 16, when your ruler, Mercury will speak with Uranus bringing good news from a friend or associate based at a distance.

The second day that deserves a gold star on your calendar is January 24 when again your ruler, Mercury, will receive a golden beam from Mars. On this day, travel, love, and fun will go hand and hand. Good news about money may arrive out of the blue on January 29.

Long distance travel seems to be on your agenda on January 30th + 2 weeks because of a very friendly new moon.
