Cancer Forecast for January 2014

This month will be about your closest relationships. With many planets stacking up in your seventh house of marriage and commitment, it is clear you may be thinking about whether you are ready to tie the knot. If you are, it appears your partner will be, too. Some Cancers, however, will decide no, not yet, or even, not ever. In that case, you may have things to discuss, or agree to part. Think of January as a defining moment, where crossroads are presented and you get to decide whether to take that next big step. The universe works toward continual progress, so sticking with the status quo will not be likely.
You will have a new moon, January 1, in Capricorn (11 degrees), appearing in your house of serious commitments, and the new moon will be accompanied by the Sun, Venus, Mercury, and Pluto. That's a lot of energy - our solar system only has ten heavenly bodies if you count the Sun and moon, and you have half this number. If you are not dating anyone, the new moon may coax you to sign official papers with a business professional, such as an agent, manager, publicist, stylist, accountant, bookkeeper, lawyer, or even a new doctor or dentist.
This new moon is flawed, however, in that Uranus will be in hard angle to the new moon, suggesting developments in your career may be in conflict with your relationship with your partner. It may be that fast moving, unanticipated events at work will require you to quickly switch your attention to your career and perhaps leave your romantic partner feeling left out or neglected. Or, if you are in a business partnership, you and your partner may have very different approaches to solve a situation, and you will have to find a way to merge energies.
Also Mars will be in hard angle to the new moon, from the fourth house of home, so your family may not like your partner or your plans, or if Mars manifests in another way, you may have problems in regard to housing. In that regard, you may not be able to easily find the right place to live together, or, in another example, you may find living together to be more difficult than you expected. Or, it may be that you have serious responsibilities for a family member, say, for a parent's welfare, and those responsibilities must take precedence, something that may frustrate your partner.
This new moon is powerful, but Mars (strife) and Uranus (surprise) will make navigating the month tricky. A new moon can affect you from six months to a year, so if you do find things to address in your relationship, it may not be possible to solve everything in a snap. Take your time. I do not want to leave the impression that every Cancer will have relationship problems. Some will, but others may make a firm commitment to marry, which can be very exciting.
The positive side of this new moon, January 1, is that Saturn will be nicely angled, so any problems that come up can be solved with a surprisingly strong, long-term solution. Indeed, you can foster a plan that sticks, one allows you to grow closer. Have faith that you can turn things around if anything should seem a bit "off" between you at times. You won't have full control this month, so you may have to adjust to being in a role of collaborator.
If your birthday falls on July 2, or within five days of that date, you will be especially affected by this new moon of January 1. All new moons have a very potent period of influence in the ten days that follow, with its strongest energy arriving immediately. With each successive day, the new moon's energy will always get weaker. See what comes up, and remind yourself that in astrology you are always in charge. There is no predestination in astrology, only cycles and influences - you make your own choices and create your own outcome.
If you have Cancer rising at 11 degrees, or a natal planet in Cancer, Scorpio, or Pisces, or in Taurus, Virgo, or Capricorn, of the same degree (plus or minus five degrees), you too will be touched by this new moon.
With so many planets opposed to your Sun this month, you will have to accommodate others' views whenever making a plan. As said earlier, you won't have full control, so don't even try to push through your own ideas without compromise. January will be all about perfecting your ability to give and take, and learning to collaborate well with others.
While most of early January you will be focused on your partner, at the full moon in Cancer, January 15 plus or minus four days, it will be your turn to put your own interests first. This full moon will be very friendly, with a gorgeous beam from Saturn. Jupiter (happiness) will partner with love-me Venus in your house of marriage. With Saturn in Scorpio in your house of true love, in sweet angle to the full moon, if love is real, it will become stronger than ever at this full moon. This will be the only full moon of the year in Cancer, so something of vital importance appears to be cresting at this time.
The day following the full moon, January 16, Uranus and Mercury will be in sync, a great aspect for generating ideas, and also for finding bargains when shopping, and for traveling spontaneously. This day will have mainly business application to you, though - it's an ideal time to sell something to a client or at the very least, to make a presentation. You may earn a hefty commission at this time, so by all means, use this day to your advantage.
If you were born on July 17 (plus or minus five days), you will benefit the most from this full moon in Cancer. The same is true if you have Cancer rising at 26 degrees, or have a natal planet in Cancer, Scorpio, or Pisces within five degrees of 26 degrees. You will also benefit if you have a natal planet in Taurus, Virgo, or Capricorn. Every Cancer, no matter what the natal chart shows, will have something to cheer about at this full moon, so circle it in gold on your calendar.
Earlier I mentioned that Mars will treat the new moon harshly on January 1, and that's true. I do want to add that Mars seems to be putting quite a spotlight on your home, not only this month, but straight through July 2014, due to Mars' trek through Libra. Mars brings enormous energy, noise, and activity, so home is becoming a main focus for you. You may have ordered painters, contractors, or other maintenance people in to do repairs, or you may be redecorating. It is alternatively possible you will be hosting many guests at your home in the months ahead, and that would explain the buzz of activity.
It may be useful to know Mars will retrograde March 1 to May 19, a time when home-related plans will either go very slowly or need to be changed. If you are hoping to launch a home-related project, do so at the end of May. If you are already involved in a project, realize that something may come up that will require you to be flexible. For example, workmen may find something in the walls or plumbing that needs to be fixed before they can continue working. If something like this comes up (and this is only an example of what might happen, and it is not the only news that may arise), be glad they found what needed to be fixed - it all works to your benefit.
If you are taking care of an elderly relative, such as your mother, you will be very focused on you beloved relative until July. After that, your intense focus will not be as needed. By July, perhaps your parent's health will improve or maybe you will hire a companion for your Mom, taking some of the day-to-day responsibilities off your shoulders. These are just a few ideas of how this would play out, but there are many others, and you might be able to guess what might fit your situation.
Venus will be retrograde all month, until January 31, as Venus started to retrograde on December 21. Venus rules love and beauty, so it's not the best time to make plans with your one-and-only now. You can talk, but it would be better to seal things after Venus goes direct. The problem is, next month Mercury will retrograde from February 6 to 28, so you'd have to seal your plans prior to February 6. I like February 1 or 2.
This month, delay plans for plastic surgery or radical changes to your hair. Trims and touchups are fine to do, but dramatic changes are not wise to schedule in January. Men, this is not the month to shave off your beard, or to grow one. Delay buying a new pair of designer sunglasses unless you have lost all your sunglasses - you may select frames that aren't flattering. (If you have no pairs to spare, get the new ones. Your eye heath is of prime importance.) Venus rules spas, so you'd likely enjoy your treatments more in February.
The month ends on another new moon, this time in Aquarius. The new moon will fall on January 30 and be electrified by Uranus, in the best sense. You may be surprised to hear you have a large check coming to you. It may arrive as a tax refund, royalty, licensing fee, or a commission. You may receive a year-end bonus a month late, at the end of January, or hear that you've been named in an inheritance. You may win money on a TV game show, or even find money on the street. The point is, you may leave the month richer than when you entered January, quite unexpectedly. That's always good news.
The day prior to the new moon is also special, January 29, and it deserves several gold stars. The Sun and Uranus will be in lovely sync, and because the Sun rules your solar second house of earned income (different from the type of funds discussed above for the new moon, which comes under credit, loans, taxes, and other people's money). Instead, January 29 may bring news of a raise or money you can earn now by working on a special project.
Summary
This month, collaboration will be your way to success. Don't attempt to take the lead, for with five heavenly bodies in your opposite sign of Capricorn, dear Cancer, you'll not have right of way, so your only option is to be conciliatory. The need to continually have to rally others to your cause may frustrate you at times, but be cheerful, for this trend will be most pronounced in the first two weeks of January. Things will gradually improve after that. You've just come through a possibly very difficult ten days in late December, and you've survived - you can master this, too.
Romantically, if your relationship is strong, you may decide to get engaged or married soon. You may want to get engaged or make another commitment to your partner this month. Venus is currently sleeping in retrograde until January 31, so wait until this planet of love is wide awake in early February (but well before Mercury retrogrades February 6). If you are not at all happy with your partner, with so many planets opposite your Sun, you may find it's time for both of you to either air your feelings and either fix things, or part.
Something vitally important to you will come to fruition on the full moon in Cancer, January 15, especially if you have a birthday that falls close to July 17. Saturn, ruling stability, will see to it that a long-range plan or decision you make at mid-month will likely turn out to be wise, and that your plans stand the test of time. With Mercury and Uranus so beautifully oriented at mid-month, professional news should sparkle, and you will be able to more easily gain the cooperation from teammates and underlings, too. Any problems you may have had in regard to career may turn at mid-month when unexpected news arrives, so stay optimistic.
Your home life will get more attention from you these days too and will remain an important hub from now through July. It may be that your parent will need more help from you or that you are planning a residential move, redesign, or renovation. With Mars in your home sector, you'll hear noise there - moving furniture? Having guests stay over? Sounds right. If you need the cooperation of a significant other to get plans started, you may have to do a fancy dance as your partner seems to be unconvinced - use your considerable powers of persuasion and add a large dash of honey, too.
Finally, another new moon will arrive on January 30 and likely bring good news about money. You may do your taxes early and find you owe less than you assumed or may even qualify for a refund. Or, your cause for celebration may be that a generous bonus or commission is on the way to you, quite unexpectedly. For that you have a friendly Uranus to thank - be happy!

Good news about money may surprise you on January 29, or at the new moon, January 30, plus two weeks. The money you receive will likely be related to commission, bonuses, or other one-time rewards.
Mars is making a long journey through your home and family sector, so you are likely to be strongly focused in this area too, from now through July.
