It's birthday month, and you have four heavenly bodies in Capricorn to help you launch a plan dear to you. You will notice the energy start to build just after the new moon, January 9 in Capricorn 19 degrees, and with that new moon will come the Sun, Pluto, and Mercury. The best part of this new moon - which will open a new path - will receive golden beams from Jupiter, the giver of gifts and luck. This is great, because Jupiter, now in Virgo, happens to be in the perfect position to help you start work on a dream dear to you.

It may be that you are about to take a long-distance trip to celebrate your birthday, to a country or island new to you. Or you may be fulfilling a dream to go to the university as an undergraduate or graduate student in the coming semester. If you have finished your education, you may take brush-up courses in your specialty or attend seminars - or you may be asked to give one. If that is not on your agenda, you may be submitting work to a publication to be published, or starting up important work on a show or documentary that will be broadcast soon.

I remember back when I had never written for any publication, I suddenly had a request to write a column. My friend, Linda, was the editor-in-chief of a tiny, new magazine called Beauty. She called to ask me to write a horoscope column, but I told her I didn't know how to do that. However, Linda was not about to take no for an answer. She said, "Susan, you have to help me. The man who is writing the column for my magazine is making things up!" My gosh, I thought, making up his forecasts? Is that possible? I shuddered to think about it. Linda knew how to motivate me.

I didn't want to let my friend down. I spent a week on the one-page column opportunity I was being given, but all the while I was terrified. I had a degree in business, not writing, but I did know astrology. Linda and I had worked together previously - I was just 23 at the time - so she knew my Little Mom had taught me astrology. When Linda called, I was conflicted because I always planned to keep my knowledge of astrology secret. Astrology was not fully accepted by the public, and I didn't see myself as a pathfinder. I just wanted to blend in with everyone else. As I write this, I laugh, because blending in is not at all what was to happen.

I worked all week on that manuscript and brought it in person into Linda's big editor-in-chief office. She read it and told me to stay still for a few minutes, that she wanted to show my work to the publisher. She asked where I was going after I left her. I replied, "Home to make any changes you need me to make! I want to get it right!" Linda was gone for five minutes and came back without my manuscript in her hands. I asked, "Was the publisher not there?" She nodded and said he was there. "Go home, Susan, and write the next month's horoscope. We love what you gave us, and even though you wrote far more words that we had asked you to write, your piece was perfect. We faxed it to our printer. We are cutting nothing. Proceed."

I was dumbstruck. The magazine was tiny and new, and I found I enjoyed doing the work. The art director dropped the type size to accommodate my words, and didn't have graphics to take up space and limit my writing. I was still an agent for commercial photographers, so I had a serious day job that allowed me to support my two children (my husband was always out of work) - this new job, with tiny pay, would be my labor of love. Little did I realize that at the time that my life had just taken an enormous turn in a new direction. That fact would only become apparent years later.

I tell you this because if you, like me, hoped to write someday, but are afraid to take the first step by sending an inquiry to an editor, do it anyway. This rule can apply to any type of work, not just publishing. If you are passionate about any subject, chances are you will become good at it, and people will be drawn to you. Miracles happen every day. As I tweeted recently, I never chose astrology. Astrology chose me. Find your destiny, dear Capricorn.

Now, back to January's outlook for you. If you are in court over a dispute, or if you have contacted your lawyer to file a patent or trademark, you are doing so in a very good year. Be careful however, in that Mercury will be retrograde, so wait until February to file a new case or to file a trademark or patent. In terms of the court case, January 13 may bring news that may make you very happy. Jupiter, the good fortune planet, in Virgo, will be in ideal angle to the Sun in Capricorn. See what happens on January 13. More money should find its way to you.

Uranus will not be in a good angle to the new moon January 9, nor to Pluto, suggesting that you may have a housing or real estate matter that you will hear about suddenly and need to fix. As a Capricorn, you've had so many instances where you're had to move or fix up your present space. You may be getting tired of all this emphasis on home and family, which always seems to strike without much warning. You have learned to be flexible, a lovable quality in you. I am sorry to have to transmit that again you may have to address a home-related question, or one involving one of your parents (or relative you think of as a parent) this month. Fortunately, your practical outlook along with your adorable Capricorn sense of humor will keep you sane. (Did you know most of our greatest comics are Capricorns?)

The slight little problem this month is that Mercury, the planet of communication, perception, judgment, negotiation, contracts, and commerce, will be retrograde in Capricorn from January 5 to 25. After a very demanding time in your career since November 12, you may enjoy the slower pace that Mercury will bring now. Plans will be postponed or cancelled, you may have to do some backtracking on a project, and you may also become easily distracted and forgetful. That's why you have to be very deliberate about the treasures you carry with you on a day-to-day basis, like your eyeglasses or sunglasses, your wallet, smart phone, or other items you would be devastated to misplace or lose. Being deliberate will help you avoid those losses.

As mentioned, you were concentrating quite a bit on your career lately, and due to the difficult new moon in Libra that occurred several months ago, October 12, your career progress has required a strenuous output from you. Now, the universe is about to give you a break, and lots of time to have fun. Mars will now move into your friendship / events / people and fun sector (eleventh house) on January 3, to stay until March 5. Hooray!

One day this month, when you may be able to travel for pure pleasure, will be January 16-17, and include Monday, January 18. Mars and Neptune will be beautifully angled, so you may go to a sunny, toasty beach, or fly to a snowy mountain to go skiing.

Money will be your focus at the full moon January 23, plus or minus four days. You may receive a commission check, an insurance payout, money from a royalty, or licensing fee. Or you may receive an infusion of venture capital or get approval from your bank for a loan, mortgage, or line of credit for your business. It is also possible you will get a letter about generous financial aid, a student loan, or even a scholarship to allow you to go to college. Money will come in, and it looks like money will go out too, but you seem to be able to hold on and keep more money than you need to send out. That's always good news.

Romantically, things will get more interesting when Venus will enter Capricorn, to stay from January 23 until February 16. This is when your magnetism will be highest, and with Mars in compatible Scorpio - a water sign that blends so very well with your earth sign of Capricorn, surely your social life will be looking up! This month won't be like last month, when you would watch other people enjoying the holiday, while you had too much to attend to professionally to fully relax. You will have more control over events than usual, and that's an exciting prospect. You've had to adjust to trying conditions, and you may have wondered when the tide would turn in your favor. Birthday month will be kind to you.

You have the Sun and new moon in Capricorn on January 9, along with powerhouse Pluto and news-and-travel planet Mercury in Capricorn as well.
