November and December were chockfull of activity, and February and March will be as well, so while you have an opportunity to put your feet up and reflect on the past year, take your chance. Put the tea kettle on the stove, take one of those delicious homemade sugar cookies from the holiday tin your aunt sent you, and enjoy a little time alone.

The new moon will be in Capricorn, January 9, and along with the Sun, Pluto, and Mercury, also in Capricorn, you will be unusually tuned in to all that is going on around you, in a deeply intuitive way. You will see others' motivations clearly now. The twelfth house, which is so brilliantly lit, rules the inner part of you. With so much light within, you must listen to what your intuition tells you, even if you have no rational reason to obey what it tells you must do. This area of the chart also rules your creative expressions, and you will be quite imaginative now, seeing solutions to projects, questions, and other mysteries in a nearly cinematic way, through a series of pictures, as if in a film. In order to pick up the gifts that the cosmos is sending you now, you must not be distracted. This is another reason it will be wise to slow down.

If you need to attend to a medical concern or to speak with a therapist who can help you with something that has saddened you, or made you fearful, you have the very best possible month to get started. Pluto is conjunct the Sun and new moon in your twelfth house, so someone who plays a very key role of authority in your life - most likely a man, such as your father, mate, or boss - may be pressuring you to accept a dictate that you don't like and have been resisting. Mercury will be retrograde January 5 to 25, so everyone, of every sign, will be looking back to see what needs to be reassessed, reexamined or redesigned. It is not a time to venture into new territory, but it is a great time to go over steps you have taken in the past. Mercury is the natural ruler of your eighth house of finances and investments. After January 9, go over the insurance policies you carry to make sure you have the proper coverage to protect you against your list of contingencies. Go over investments with your financial advisor, too, to see if you need to make any course corrections with your retirement account. You have Jupiter, the great good fortune planet, adding growth and luck to your financial holdings. If there were ever a great time to make sure your money multiplies while you sleep, it's now! Jupiter is touring this house for the first time in twelve years and when he leaves in September, he won't be back for another twelve years. Let Jupiter work for you, and by year's end, you will be all the richer for having made an effort to grow your savings.

Mercury retrograde is not the time to buy any electronic items, appliances, or a car, but rather is a good time to do research and decide which items you would like to save up to buy in February. If you buy one of these items now, you will likely regret doing so. A bargain is not a bargain if you don't enjoy the purchase in the way you had anticipated.

You may want to travel, and you can with Mercury retrograde, as long as you mark your luggage clearly and are quite deliberate in keeping track of your possessions. Two days will likely be dreadful for travel, and those will be January 20 and January 31, a time when Mercury (travel) will be at odds with Uranus (unanticipated developments). While everyone of every sign will find these days a challenge to get from point A to B, you may find it more difficult than most, as Uranus is your ruling planet. Still, you appear to need to schedule a face-to-face meeting with a person who holds the purse strings, as your travel will likely be for business.

An infinitely better day to choose to visit a nearby town (astrologically, within a day's drive) would be January 14 when Mercury and Jupiter will be in sync. You'd come back with the order and humming a happy tune. January 22 brings more good news, when Mercury and Pluto will join forces - money can be appropriated in the way you had hoped. Sign papers (after January 25) and begin.

If you are self-employed, you get ready to pitch new business in February. If you are happy and dating, you might make a plan to be exclusive to each other, or to move in together in May. Mars is in a slightly cranky angle to the full moon, so watch for signs that your partner is feeling a little left out or neglected by your success. Another way this full moon may work out is that talks you may have been having with a proposed collaborator or business partner, agent, or manager may now reach fullness. Don't sign papers quite yet - Mercury goes direct on January 25, but leave space between that date and the date you sign. If you can wait until after the new moon next month, February 8, that would be better yet.

Romantically, Venus will remain in Sagittarius, a fire sign that blends perfectly with your air-sign element until January 23. Venus first entered Sagittarius on December 30. During this phase, think about how to make your look fresh and modern so that you can help Cupid along. Having a compelling "presentation" can only help love come to you.

Check to see if your mother had a baby book where she may have recorded the time of your birth. Also check the Hall of Records or Bureau of Vital Statistics where birth records are stored by your municipality. You need the handwritten birth certificate, not the computer copy - if it costs five dollars in the US, it's the wrong certificate. It should cost a bit more and each state sets its own price. January will be a fine time to think about your career. Make changes if you feel you've outgrown your present job and have no ability to develop and flourish any farther. Mars will enter your prestigious tenth house of fame and honors and remain there until March 6. Hosting Mars in this area of your chart is a big plus because Mars will make you assertive, courageous, and eager to get ahead. You won't have problems getting your foot in the door of influential VIPs, and once there, they will listen to what you have to say. You will have the edge over the competition simply because you will work strategically and carefully toward the prize job you have in mind.

You may have to hold back a little, however, because Mercury will be retrograde the entire month of January, from January 5 to 25. It is never wise to accept a new position during Mercury retrograde because the job description will change, or the person you hope to work under may leave. These are two examples, but disappointment will likely follow. If offered the job, wait until after January 25 to give your final answer.

There is one exception to "do not take a job during Mercury retrograde" and that is, if you worked previously for the person you would work for now, or if you are going back to a company or previous project. Watch for an exciting assignment to come to you on January 13, when good fortune Jupiter in your workaday project sector receives a signal from the Sun in Aquarius, indicating that it has your name written all over it. The client wants your taste and style to shine through, so this will indeed be a great opportunity to discuss. This suggests the project on your desk is a jewel and will bring you acclaim. It appears this is job has no danger of being "all glory, no money" - not at all. Your compensation should be very generous, for you have Jupiter in the perfect part of your chart to protect you.
