Commander of the Naval Forces of Ukraine Denis Berezovsky on Sunday swore allegiance to the citizens of Crimea promising to protect their lives and freedoms, during a press conference in Sevastopol.

Rear-Admiral Denis Berezovsky also said he would fully comply with the orders of the Supreme Commander of the autonomous republic.
Rear-Admiral Denis Berezovsky was appointed as commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Naval Forces by the Rada appointed acting president, Oleksandr Turchynov, in Kiev on 1 March 2014.

Sergey Aksyonov, the prime minister of Crimea, read out a decree ordering all naval forces stationed in Sevastopol to ignore any commands issued by the authorities in Kiev.
