（法新社貝爾法斯特10日電）英國的北愛爾蘭一週來暴動頻傳，讓人擔心其脆弱和平岌岌可危之際，鄰國愛爾蘭總理馬丁（Michael Martin）今天警告勿讓北愛局勢惡化，重陷宗派衝突。

警方今天並未針對北愛首府貝爾法斯特（Belfast）的騷亂發布聲明，街頭似乎也恢復平靜。親英統一派與愛爾蘭民族主義派一週來頻傳暴動，是近年來暴力情事持續最久的一次。

警方表示，昨天員警在統一派區域遭人丟擲汽油彈與石塊，14名員警掛彩，還有一輛車「遭到劫持縱火之後推向警方封鎖線，共計最近的不平靜已讓員警總受傷人數攀升到88人。

此外，昨天警方也在北部城鎮科藍（Coleraine）和40名民眾發生衝突，在貝爾發斯特北郊的紐敦阿比（Newtownabbey），也有一人被控「在可疑環境持有汽油彈」。

今天是「耶穌受難節協議」（Good Friday Agreement）23週年，1998年簽訂的這項協議，結束了北愛針對英國統治而起的長達30年、奪走3500條人命的宗派衝突。

馬丁今天表示：「為了簽署協議的世代以及未來的世代，我們不能重新陷入那個宗派謀殺以及政治分歧的黑暗地方。」

「我們負責政治領導的人特別有責任向前邁進，扮演好我們的角色，確保這件事不能發生。」

Zappone: I am honoured to have been appointed by the Government to be the Special Envoy on Freedom of Opinion and Expression, it is clear that criticism of the appointment process has impacted the legitimacy of the role itself.

… a Special Envoy role can only be of real value to Ireland and to the global community if the appointment is acceptable to all parties.

For this reason, I have decided not to accept this appointment, and I have communicated my decision to the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Zappone's statement does not address how she came into the role nor the nature of the event at the Merrion Hotel. A mess the Government could have done without, surely.
