              Scarborough(史卡保羅)是英國一個海邊地名.





              遠在中古時代後期.Scarborough是英國商人的一個重要集合地點.
              [史卡保羅市集]並不是我們今日所謂的市集.而是英格蘭.歐洲的商人們進行
              交易的盛事.

              過去的Scarborough是曾經有這樣盛事的港口.
              現在因為逐漸沒落.今日的Scarborough只是一個小鎮而已了.
             

              而在中古時期.這首歌是由不具名的吟遊詩人所唱.
              而且在城鎮之間流動時.歌詞往往會隨之增添.
              所以原作者已經不可考.
             
              這首歌歌詞包含有許多民間的詩句.
              ex：Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.
                      香草、鼠尾草、迷迭香與百里香
              算是這首歌中最膾炙人口的.也因此讓這首歌一舉成名.
              到現在仍琅琅上口
             
              歌詞中所透露的故事.

              歌詞大意是敘述一位被情人拋棄的戰士.
              雖然他不知是什麼原因.
              (也可能是原因太複雜所以刻意省略)
              但還是希望情人能主動回到他身邊.
              戰士還指派給情人許多不可能的任務(笑)
              只要心上人能完成這些事情.
              他就會原諒她.讓她回到身邊來.
