「island」古作iland、yland，字源為*awjōlandą = *awjō + *landą ，相當於「島嶼之地」

 但因為16世紀時，中古英文的ile加字體變成isle，結果陰錯陽差連著iland一起加了，變成island。

her的字源則是古英語hire（原始日耳曼語*hezōi），雖然是he（原始日耳曼語*hiz）的女性版，但是有獨立的拼法，直到後來才被改成her（源自於hire的變異版herė），看起來就像是he的從屬品、變異版，就像man/woman、male/female（female也是魔改下的產物）。
