因為市面大多數機器壓模的地球儀，往往容易出現精準度不足情況，這讓建國科技大學觀光系助理教授林志重靈光一現，把地球儀表面變凸面，勇奪今年日本東京創新天才發明展金牌！

林志重從雨傘得來靈感

林志重是彰師大地理博士，對於地球儀、地圖特別感興趣，但每次只要仔細端詳，看到有失真處，就會忍不住想要糾正，有次撐雨傘發現雨傘也不是光滑表面，而是由所裁的布面縫製而成，頓時靈光一閃，「沒人規定地球儀要長成光滑的表面」！

「地球原本就不是圓球體！」林志重說，由於地球是橢圓球體，當畫成平面的地圖時，高緯度就會被放大；當做成圓球體的地球儀時，也會因為大多是機器壓模製造，往往赤道都有條粗粗的黑線，有的河川就斷掉，島嶼與海峽的對應位置就精準度不足，他曾經看過有的地球儀「多瑙河斷了」，台灣形狀從番薯變成了橄欖！

12葉片組成球面更精準

因此，林志重以地理資訊系統（GIS）方法與投影技術來製成球面，「凸面地球儀」有十二個地圖葉片做成的弧面，地圖葉片材質為壓克力，如果做成平面版，就會是長得像盤子般的「凹面地圖」。

林志重說，傳統機器生產地球儀，價格比較親民，但因為壓模，往往地理區界與比例都精準度不足，河流與鐵路也會有誤差；雖然也有手工製作高準度地球儀，但全世界只有兩家，價格高昂；而「凸面地球儀」精準度比機器量化生產地球儀高，但費用比手工地球儀低，除拿下亞洲重要發明展之一的東京天才發明展金牌外，也已申請台灣發明專利，有機會量化上市。
