My husband and I had been married for 12 years.

Starting last year, even though we lived in the same house, we each used separate rooms.

We planned to submit it once our son's semester ended.

Our son clung unusually tightly to my hand the whole time.

On the last day, we went to a small village called Pingxi.

Sky lanterns are these big paper lanterns where you write wishes and light them to send floating into the sky, and you can write one wish on each of the four sides.

My husband and I wrote things like "Please keep our son healthy."

Our son covered his side with one hand and turned his back to write.

Even when I asked to see, he said it was a secret.

The shop staff lit it for us, and the lantern slowly rose.

As it caught the wind and ascended, it spun gently.

The side our son had written on turned toward us.

When we saw the words written there, my husband and I looked at each other at the same time.
