Cancer Horoscope for May 2014

By Susan Miller

Last month was a hard month for many, for we had two eclipses, April 15 and April 28. You are a cardinal sign, and planets transiting in cardinal signs (Pluto in Capricorn, Jupiter in Cancer, Uranus in Aries, and Mars in Libra) were clanging and banging each other, giving many of us a hard time. Even if you didn't find yourself in the middle of the fray, others around you were tense and possibly blaming you for everything they could think of - even their unhappy childhood. It was like the crazies were coming out of the cage. Not all Cancers had planets that were sensitive to the April 15 eclipse, but many did.

The April 15 eclipse highlighted your living situation, so you may have focused on that, but if all the pieces of your puzzle were not falling into place, I understand why. Cancers born near July 15 plus or minus four days were most likely to feel the eclipse of April 15. If you didn't notice any news, then you may notice something one month to the day later - May 15 - plus or minus five days. In particular, keep watch on your home and family situation.

The second eclipse, April 28, which occurred just days before May dawned, was a softer, somewhat easier eclipse for Cancer, but I say that not knowing your entire chart. On the world stage, near April 28, we saw that not everyone had a good week, but then again, I did not see any prominent Cancers among those who suffered. That second eclipse lit your eleventh house of friendship, so you may have seen a friend move away, get married, or have another major change in lifestyle.

Eclipses, even new moon eclipses like the one April 28, open a new path, often ask for a sacrifice, or will "eclipse out" someone or something that is prominent in your life. News could have gone either way, but even if your friend's news was joyous, you may have felt a bit sad or wistful, for you felt passage of time. Cancers born June 30, plus or minus five days, were to feel, but ultimately grow and benefit from the April 28 new moon solar eclipse. Solar eclipses don't end things like the April 15 lunar full moon eclipse - they open a new path.

That April 28 eclipse, falling so close to the start of May, will give you a chance to reconnect with old friends, but also make new ones too. You still have Jupiter in your sign, a wonderful place for long-distance travel, so you might want to take a long-distance trip in early May with a friend, or to see a friend, while your stars are twinkling so beautifully.

This month will be strongly about love and fun, because the full moon, May 14, will light your fifth house of love and romance. Although this full moon (not an eclipse) is falling in a lighthearted part of your solar chart, it will, nevertheless, orbit close to Saturn, the planet that asks us that we be realistic and practical. At this full moon, you might decide about the future of your romantic relationship, or if you are happily attached, whether you are ready to have a baby. Saturn will have you thinking very long term, which is a positive - that's Saturn's job, to make you think ahead and not just live day to day. You may be feeling the clock ticking, and in that regard, will want to get going on one big life goal.

This is a positive full moon, so you need not necessarily be concerned over a breakup, only if you have been unhappy for some time. It is just as likely you will have a divine experience and confess your love for your one-and-only. If you have been working hard on a creative project, you may now see it wrapped up and put to bed. The presence of Saturn seems to suggest that you have had to pay close attention to the details. As said earlier, you need to watch for news about your home and family too, near May 15, in case the eclipse of April 15 did not deliver its news.

At the full moon, you will feel the gorgeous oncoming agreement on May 24 between Jupiter in Cancer and Saturn in Scorpio, a slow moving aspect that is quite rare and spectacular. These two planets will color the whole month and rinse it with golden light. Jupiter and Saturn will not collaborate like this again until August 2026 - and Jupiter won't be in Cancer next time. Use this month to add stability and joy to your life - these two planets will allow you plenty of both. This is an ideal time to take steps toward a big, heartfelt goal - Saturn will help give you the platform you need to make it a reality.

If your birthday falls on July 16, plus or minus five days, you will feel this full moon quite directly.

I will mention that coming just before the full moon of May 14, we all have a hard day coming May 10, when the Sun and Saturn will be in a tug-of-war. This is a day when love and friendship could be challenging. You may be critized by a friend or love, but if so, try to break the conversation and agree to meet in two weeks. That day is simply too hot. If things have not been good between you, the full moon may bring a clearing of the air, but only if you've not been happy.

Something else is happening in May to give you reason for celebration. Mars has been in Libra for months, since December 7, and caused you to focus strongly on home, property, and family matters. You may have felt pinned to home, unable to move ahead with your goals, because of your responsibilities that held you there. You may have had the care of an elderly relative, such as your grandmother or mother, or you may have had to oversee a long and involved home renovation. Or, alternatively, you've been worried about mortgage payments, or the need to buy, sell, or lease a house or apartment. Mars will not leave Libra until July, but you will be happy to hear that Mars, retrograde since March 1, will go direct on May 19.

This move of Mars to direct will mark a very significant change. Think of Mars as the gas on your stove. When you put a pot on one of the burners, Mars makes your pot boil. However, if Mars is in retrograde, nothing happens. You have to resort to other means to cook your food, or to launch your ventures, but none of them will be easy to do - you will have to do the work of two, you and Mars. You've struggled with home-related concerns since December 7, but the remedy you may have tried to apply since March 1 may have been flawed, or else you ran into obstacles through no fault of your own. Now Mars will go direct on May 19, and you will see all of life speed up noticeably. Mars is the natural ruler of your house of fame and honors, so you will see your career take a big leap forward too. (It will take Mars a while to wake up from his groggy sleep, but by the second half of July Mars will be moving his normal top speed. This is all good news.)

Just one day earlier, May 18, Venus and Uranus will conjoin in your house of reputation, career status, awards, and honors. You may get a huge pat on the back from a VIP, or stunning publicity. You may bring in a new client, or get an offer for a promotion or new position. It's a day filled with surprises, and all of them will relate to your mounting career.

More good news for your career is due on May 30, when the Sun and Mars, will be newly fortified. On this day, VIPs are likely to support your ideas - on this day you are a star.

At month's end, you may yearn for privacy and rest. The new moon of May 28 will appear in your house of privacy, so take a moment to recharge your batteries. Make sure you have a clear idea of what you'd like to accomplish as Mercury, the planet of communication, negotiation, and travel, will be retrograde from June 7 to July 1. If you have important actions to take, use one of the days I have outlined for you earlier in the month. It will be a perfect time to daydream. You are entering a period of enormous financial growth, and virtually all of the money you earn will be from seeds you planted from June 25, 2013 to July 16, 2014. If you have a key career move to make, make it now, or wait until the first half of July, dear Cancer.

Summary

Last month you may have been focused on changes in your career, or if none yet, you will likely see them shaping up this month. You are in a time of vast change, so be good to yourself as you formulate your strategy. Regular spa treatments will become more necessity than luxury, so indulge your need for soothing breaks. One day that might bring happy news about your career is May 18, when Venus and Uranus will combine forces to bring you surprise praise or a victory.

In May, you will have an opportunity to enjoy social activity, and that sets May apart from April. You will begin the month having just attended an outstanding gathering, such as a friend's wedding, birthday party, or baby shower, or soon will. This theme on being with friends and enjoying their company will extend through the following weekend, May 3-4, when Jupiter will be so beautifully oriented to the Sun.

The first part of May will be about friendship, but later, at the full moon, May 14, your romantic relationship will reach an important juncture. Saturn, the planet that forces us to think long term, will ask you to decide about how you feel about the person you have been dating or are attached to in an established relationship. If you feel that there's not a future together, you may break up, but it's just as likely, if you are happy, that you'll get engaged. If you are already wed, you can grow closer. This full moon will simply test the strength of your tie - you will know where you stand after it occurs.

One of your most heartfelt, joyous days, when you will see how dearly you are loved, will be May 24, when Jupiter, giver of gifts and luck, will receive Saturn's super-friendly rays from your house of true love. This is a stabilizing and comforting aspect, and will help you not only with matters of love, but also friends, and in regard to a child, a creative project, and with your temporary cash flow difficulty.

The month ends quietly, allowing you time for rest and reflection. You will crave privacy, perhaps as a delayed reaction to all the commotion that has been occurring in many corners of your life in April and May. As a Cancer, you have been shouldering more than your share of responsibilities, so now take time to rehabilitate and recharge. A visit to a spa would be the ideal solution, as would tickets to a ballet or concert. Even though the world seems to need much from you, taking time for yourself in the days following the new moon May 30 will do you a world of good.

Dates to Note: CANCER

Most important dates for love, meetings, or actions: May 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 14 (wild card) 22, 24, 25, 26, 30, and 31.

You will be very popular at work while Venus tours your reputation section (tenth house) from May 2 to May 28.

One of your best days for good news in regard to your career will be May 15.

If you are invited to a gathering on May 5, go, for the Sun and Jupiter will encourage fun.

On May 10, the Sun will oppose Saturn, so you may hit a rocky patch in regard to romance, or you may have a heavy workload and can't quite enjoy yourself.

The full moon of May 14 will bring a matter involving love, pregnancy, a child you have now, or a creative project to fullness. There will be a serious focus. You seem aware that your decisions now will have long lasting affects.

Mars will go direct May 19, after having been retrograde since March 1. Home and property-related goals should move forward now.

If you have had difficulties getting along with your partner, the weekend of May 24 and May 25 could help you break down walls, thanks to Jupiter's favorable collaboration with Saturn.

If you need to buy or sell property, move or renovate, May 30 and 31 will be very favorable days to do so.

Finish up things in May, as Mercury will go retrograde June 7 to July 1, not a time to start anything new.
