A Note from Susan Miller
JULY 2018
Dear readers,
I feel we all live in our heads so much of the time that when we are faced with a circumstance that forces us to acknowledge that we really do have a body to care for, it sometimes comes as a bit of shock. I suppose if you are an athlete and reading this, you are laughing at me. It’s true, as an astrologer and a writer, I spend most of my days thinking.
When I was wheeled to the outside of the operating room on the morning of June 12, wearing the special blue paper surgical gown and shower cap to cover my hair, it occurred to me that some things in life have to be faced straightforwardly, and gone through by ourselves without help. I feel these experiences make us stronger and also more compassionate of others.
Yet, then I thought about how lucky I was – so many of you, dear readers, said you would send a prayer for me when I posted on Twitter and Facebook that I was about to have an operation. You responded so warmly, far beyond my expectations, and it made my heart swell. Thank you so much.

Your Horoscope by Susan Miller
This is a big month, with plenty of changes coming up. Things won’t always go as planned, but lots of very good developments will come up too, so stay optimistic. As a Taurus, you like life best when it has a measure of predictability, but even you may begin to embrace the changes as good for your spirit and soul. Let’s look at the full spectrum of activity.
You currently have Mars, the action planet, at the very pinnacle point of your chart, energizing your career and reputation, and bringing your work to the attention of many influential people, including prospective clients. The problem is, Mars went retrograde on June 27 last month and Mars will not regulate his orbit until August 27. This means you will be subject to a number of delays to professional affairs, but those delays will actually benefit you. Don’t rail against them – the universe is asking you to slow down and challenge your most basic assumptions.
You may want to take a second look at projects that you put aside for lack of time or funding – you may want to revisit one of them, for the timing in early 2019, particularly in February, may be perfect for a launch, as long as you get plans ready now.
You won’t lose the competitive edge by waiting because everyone will be subject to this slowdown, not just your sign. Moreover, Mars will be in superb position in September through mid-November, moving through your tenth house of honors, awards, and achievement, so you will have lots of time to push ahead in your career.
The rule is this: never launch an important project when Mars is retrograde. Mars is the warrior planet and gives you the will and determination to win. Life brings obstacles, but Mars helps you find ways around them. However, when Mars is retrograde, you simply don’t have access to Mars’ stream of energy that you have become used to getting and probably took that energy for granted. You can try to fill in for the lack of Mars’ strong orbit, but you will soon see this trend is bigger than anything you anticipated. If you try to do all the heavy lifting yourself, you will soon see it’s a yeoman’s task.
Let me try to explain to you what is happening in a more graphic way. When Mars is in a normal, healthy, strong orbit, it takes Mars two days to travel one degree. Last month, as Mars got closer to the day he started to retrograde on June 25, starting June 21, Mars took 12 days to go one degree. Twelve days! When Mars is retrograde, it will feel like you are walking through heavy snow, and projects will creep along slowly.
The smart way to deal with Mars retrograde is to reevaluate, readdress, redo, revisit, and rethink previously done projects (or a project you have in development now) and allow for changes or tweaks to your strategy. From now until after August 27, do not debut any new business idea or start an important new relationship.
There is another twist to this month, in that on July 25 Mars’ brother, Mercury, will also go retrograde from this month, July 25 to August 18. As you see, very little will be accomplished with these two planets out of phase, and because Mercury, Mars, and Venus are the three planets that orbit closest to earth, and those are the ones we notice most in our everyday lives when retrograde.
Let’s now turn to the happiest day of the month, July 5, when Jupiter will be in perfect angle to the Sun. You have Jupiter in your marriage sector (seventh house) and the Sun in your contractual sector (third house). Some Taurus will get engaged this day or married near this day, and others who do collaborative work, like a publicist, lawyer, business partner, agent, manager, acting coach, writing partner, or other such work, will find that collaborating together with talented people is your key to success on this day. You may already have this person in your life. Whether you are the talent or the professional, either way, your road to finding gold is through pooling energies and working together, not solo.
The smart way to deal with Mars retrograde is to reevaluate, readdress, redo, revisit, and rethink previously done projects (or a project you have in development now) and allow for changes or tweaks to your strategy.
Jupiter has been retrograde since March 8, but will go direct on July 10. From then on, you will get double the amount of help from Jupiter in your partnership / marriage / collaborative sector until November 8, the date Jupiter will move on to the next sign. The partnership house is basically a contractual house, so it rules serious one-on-one relationships of all kinds, in love and business. If you don’t have a contract, but have been together for years, perhaps your contact is verbal or implied, and then that ironclad relationship that you already formed also falls under your seventh house.
Just to be clear, if you are dating casually and not sure how you feel yet about that person, that relationship is under the fifth house of love, not the seventh house of marriage or serious commitments. If you are attached in love or business, the person you are with will be the one who benefits you from Jupiter now.
We have two major eclipses this month, July 12 and July 27, so let’s now turn to look closely at those. Eclipses always coincide with a new or full moon, and eclipses have the strength of three normal full or new moons rolled into one. They are the most dramatic tools that the universe uses to affect change.
The first eclipse will come on July 12 and is a new moon, so it will open opportunities. The Sun and new moon will be together, lighting your third house of contractual matters, so you may be asked to sign a contract. You can, but you must negotiate, and it may take time to get to accord. The other party appears to be stubborn and self-absorbed, and dig in his heels, not wanting to give an inch. Or, it may be that you suddenly become aware of a ruthless competitor who will stop at nothing to win – even using unfair tactics.
Normally with such a severe aspect, I would give up on this eclipse and advise you to lie low, but no, there are many darling aspects associated with this lunar eclipse, too.
The new moon and Sun in Cancer (a good placement for you) will be in perfect angle to Neptune, the planet that rules artistic expression, and to Jupiter, the planet of profit, now in your house of marriage and all types of commitments. If you have a spouse or person who represents you, that person will be a dazzling gem to you. This golden triangle linking the Sun, new moon eclipse, Jupiter, and Neptune tells me you can find accord if you work on doing so. It will take patience, but your sign, Taurus, is known for having been born with an abundance of patience.
Remarkably, there are not one but TWO golden triangles appearing in the heavens at the very same time of the July 12 solar eclipse. The second triangle will link Uranus in your sign of Taurus, Saturn in Capricorn, and Venus in Virgo, the latter in your house of true love. Virgo is a perfect place for Venus to be for you. Uranus is in Taurus for the first time since 1934-1942, so your life could change quite a bit, for Uranus rules surprises and sudden shifts. In this case, you are due for a happy surprise – you may meet someone new, hear good news about your child, or if you have been trying to get pregnant, find out that the stork is flapping his wings and on his way to you with a little bundle of joy.
Saturn’s position in your ninth house and so friendly to the July 12 eclipse suggests you may be taking a trip in mid-July. If you go for work, you will find that things are crystalizing, but that bossy person who wants his own way will need to be handled diplomatically. You may be getting good news from the media – you may get an assignment or you (or the person you represent) may be written up in the press in an exciting way. Matters involving the courts or academia also will shine.
The fact that you and the bossy person are meeting and talking together is a good sign – he wants to work with you – and the fact that Jupiter is so beautifully aspected to Neptune says to me there is reason for hope. You may have received this introduction to this project through a mutual friend. The place that Neptune is found in your solar chart is your eleventh house of hopes and wishes, so if you really want this deal, you can find the key to make it happen.
If you are trying to deal with a soon-to-be ex-spouse, the same rules apply. Take your time – you have time on your side, so there is no reason to rush.
The last eclipse of the month will be a tricky one for your career. Keep your schedule light so that you will be able to move in any direction you will need to go. There is no doubt that something is coming to critical mass in your career, and it appears to be non-negotiable and final.
I say this because the full moon will fall in Aquarius, and light your tenth house of fame and honors and be in hard angle to Uranus. Mars will conjoin that full moon, and Uranus, planet of sudden surprise, will challenge the full moon lunar eclipse and the Sun in your house of home and family at the same time.
A push-pull between the moon and Sun indicates that the demands of work will clash with needs of family members. You will have work on your desk that will need to be done, but at the same time, there will be something you will need to attend to at home. The moon in your chart, dear Taurus, rules sisters and brothers, cousins, and other close kin in your chart, so you may be dealing with one of those individuals.
The Sun is found in your house of home, so you may also be thinking about your mother or father, or about someone you hired to help you with the home. Or, this eclipse alternatively might focus your attention on a tenant you may have if you own property and have people living in the house or building.
Lunar eclipses bring an end to certain matters so that something new can start in its place. If you were unaware of something going on under the radar, you will find out now, for eclipses bring a floodlight of truth. This is not an easy eclipse, mainly because of the involvement of Uranus, making everything that happens come out of the blue, without warning. This eclipse is cutting across the key angles of your chart, top and bottom (where the 12 and 6 are on the face of a clock). If your birthday falls within four days of April 24, you are more likely to feel this eclipse directly, for the degrees of the eclipse will touch the degrees of your birthday Sun.
Before I go, let’s talk about love. You have a very romantic weekend this month, which will come over July 22-23. It will be such a lovely one, for Venus in Virgo will receive dazzling rays from Jupiter in Scorpio, linking your house of love, fun, and leisure to the house of marriage and partner. You may be drawing closer if you are single and dating, or you may be surprised by your partner with something you don’t expect on this gorgeous weekend.
Do something fun and luxurious – a great dinner in a special occasion restaurant, or get tickets to a rock concert or to a Broadway play. If you are single with no special someone in your life now, you might want to use this day to book a special treatment in the spa over that weekend.
July 22-23 would be a perfect weekend for a getaway, to be together under the stars. If you want to travel earlier, I also love July 7-8 for you, when the transiting moon will be in Taurus and Neptune, and the Sun will create a very glamorous, poetic alignment.
SUMMARY
Ever since Uranus entered your sign in mid-May for a six-month stay, giving you a preview of what is coming in full force in coming 2019 to 2026, you are feeling liberated and ready to break limiting bonds. You will be decisive and ready to bolt, surprising everyone who knows you. In coming months and years, you won’t need weeks to mull over decisions as has typically been the case for you in the past, dear Taurus, from now on, you will know your own mind and what you need to do.
Late last month, Uranus in Taurus helped you by sending powerful beams to Saturn and to last month’s full moon of June 27. At that time you may have planned distant travel or may have even entertained the idea of moving to another country. Saturn conjoined that full moon of June 27, and will give you a serious, practical perspective. You might be tempted to go to the other extreme, to be impulsive, but there is no reason to rush.
Mars turned retrograde in your tenth house of career late last month not to turn direct until August 27. While you will gradually sort out lifestyle questions and make new plans for your career, you will be very busy, and your profile in your industry will be high. Still, you will find that getting things done without Mars at full power to be a strenuous task. In July and August you might feel like you take three steps forward but two steps back on every initiative.
Within this period, Mars’ brother Mercury will also go retrograde from July 25 to August 18. You may feel caught in quicksand, where few decisions will be generated from VIPs at the top so you won’t be able to accomplish a lot. Don’t rail against this, but go with it. It is not a time to launch big ventures, but to study conditions and plan to resume assertive launches in your best month, September.
There are other considerations. Three eclipses are about to barrel your way, with two due in July, and one in August, all three likely to bring important changes that you still don’t know are coming. Until you have received the messages of those eclipses and can see the lay of the land, you won’t know where you stand.
The first, a solar new moon eclipse on July 12 in Cancer will be mainly bright and happy, and allow you to travel. You may be asked to sign important papers at this time, too, but it would be best not to do so until September if you can wait that long. Even assuming you are dedicated to the idea of signing, you will find reaching accord with the person at the other side of the table to be a difficult task. Pluto is opposed to the Sun, so you may feel at times that you are trying to move a mountain. Meanwhile, during all this, pressure on you at work to produce will mount, and you will need to be a master juggler to keep up. Stay cool – you’ve got this.
News will keep on coming your way. The full moon eclipse of July 27 in Aquarius will light your tenth house of career honors and achievement, suggesting you will need to give your career focused attention at the end of July and early August. Your career will begin to shift in a way you won’t expect. Unpredictable Uranus will be in hard angle to both Mars and the tender full moon and on the other side of the chart, the Sun on July 27, so stay as flexible as possible as news rolls in. Everyone, of every sign, will see the landscape shift, but for each sign, the changes will occur in different ways.
Mars in hard angle to Uranus and the Sun on this lunar eclipse July 27 suggests that someone will bolt out of the gate and become a fierce competitor. This could be a former friend who starts to wear sheep’s clothing to conceal the truth that she is not the friendly colleague you have always assumed her to be. This is a troublesome eclipse, but there is a good part in that you will receive a huge download of information, revealing what has been afoot. Seeing the situation, albeit a troubling one, will allow you to protect yourself.
Next month, the August 11 new moon solar eclipse in Leo will light your home and family sector, so changes will start to occur there now or in the not-to-distant future.
