[中古漢語] - 大和時代 * 多使用於佛教用語與律令紀（古代的法律與政令紀）用語、「古事記」的萬葉假名

 漢音  - 唐中.長安

[中古漢語] - 奈良時代後期至平安時代初期 * 最具系統性

新漢音 - 唐末

[中古漢語] - 平安時代中期 * 主要用於密教「聲明」（佛教音樂）

唐宋音

 - 唐音 - 唐音由於母胎音的關係，帶有明顯的類似於現代官話和吳語發音的特色。

 - 宋音 - 宋音體現出中國音由中古音向近代音過渡過程中的種種變化。

  - 南宋
