人生在世，總是會不斷遇到阻擋在我們面前的高牆。然而，啄木鳥卻是過著刻意撞牆的日子。
棲息於北美洲的啄木鳥，可以用每秒高達二十次的驚人速度快速啄木，而且據說，牠們每天啄木的次數竟然多達一萬二千次。
在啄木的過程中，啄木鳥每次所承受的撞擊力大約是 1,200 公克，這樣的撞擊力道，相當於在時速 25 公里的速度下，用臉撞牆的感覺。
一般來說，人類在受到 150 公克的撞擊力道衝擊下便會暈倒。
事實上，讓舒瓦布教授感興趣的並不是啄木鳥會不會頭痛這件事，而是啄木鳥的眼睛為什麼不會因為撞擊而受傷？
舒瓦布教授表示，啄木鳥在演化過程中，已經發展出數個能夠保護自己不受衝擊傷害的生理特徵。主要的生理特徵如下：
◎啄木鳥的腦部組織與人類不同，是完整地充滿了整個顱骨。
啄木鳥的腦部組織周圍幾乎沒有脊髓液，並不像人類的腦部組織是漂浮在脊髓液當中，因此當啄木鳥在受到撞擊時，腦部組織並不會因亂漂亂撞而受到損傷。
這項生理特徵也使啄木鳥尤其可以承受來自正前方的衝擊。
◎下顎周圍的組織構造宛如能夠吸收衝擊力的緩衝墊。
啄木鳥的下顎是透過強力的肌肉與顱骨連接。在開始啄木前的千分之一秒時，這些肌肉便會收縮，發揮緩衝的功能。
◎啄木鳥與人類一樣，在眼睛外側具有兩片眼瞼，但啄木鳥的眼睛內側還多出了一片眼瞼。
這片內眼瞼的構造相當厚，不僅可以保護啄木鳥的眼睛不會在啄木時被飛濺的破碎木片刺傷，也能像安全帶一樣固定住眼球。
若是沒有這片內眼瞼，不僅啄木鳥的眼球可能會飛出眼眶，甚至還會因為啄木速度過快而造成視網膜破裂。另外，啄木鳥的眼球外側相較起來偏硬，也可以防止視網膜隨便轉動。

美國今年2月受到極端氣候影響，氣溫變得更加低溫寒冷，造成許多河流、湖泊瞬間結冰，一名網友先前曾在結冰的湖面看到一堆神秘的突起物，靠近一看才發現，原來這些湖面突起物竟是「鱷魚」的鼻子，鱷魚在湖面結冰前露出鼻子呼吸，靠冬眠的方式來維持生命，這招極地求生術讓不少網友看了大吃一驚。

一名女網友尚巴赫（Jessica Schambach）發文表示，有人在奧克拉荷馬州野生動物保護區（Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation）的湖泊，拍下驚人的一幕，一大片結冰的湖面上，冒出一堆黑色的不明突起物，原本以為是發生什麼奇怪現象，走近被冰封的湖面一看才知道，原來這些突起物都是鱷魚的鼻子。
根據《聯合新聞網》報導，網友表示，這些湖裡的鱷魚似乎能預知湖水何時會結冰，在結冰前將吻顎抬高露出湖面，接著進入冬眠狀態。由於鱷魚是爬蟲類無法調節體溫，加上美國部分地區湖面經常下雪結冰，鱷魚將鼻子露出湖面，在冰凍的湖水中維持不動，降低體溫跟新陳代謝，用最低能量維持心跳，把自己給「半冷凍」起來，等待湖面冰層融化後，就能恢復活力，特殊的極地求生術，讓網友驚嘆不已。

真的是太吃驚了！一名女子在網路上訂購了3個椰子螺想好好料理一番，沒想到卻意外發現螺肉裡竟然有一顆重達4.52克的稀世之寶「美樂珠」，有珠寶商聽聞後隨即開價約44萬新台幣向她收購，不過雙方對於價格還沒達成協議。
據多家陸媒報導，安徽省銅陵市一名邢姓女子在網路上花85元人民幣（約377元新台幣）購買3顆椰子螺，準備料理時卻發現螺內有異物，她開螺取出後發現是一顆橘黃色圓潤飽滿的珠子，她雖然不知道是什麼東西，但覺得這顆珠子很漂亮，因此拍下影片與網友分享，想不到珠子的畫面被轉傳後，有珠寶商與她聯絡，並詢問她願不願意出售。
邢姓女子隨後上網搜尋，才知這是一顆極罕見、有珍珠之王之稱的「美樂珠」（Melo Pearl）。邢姓女子受訪時表示，這顆美樂珠重量約有4.52公克重，目前有珠寶商出價10萬人民幣（約44萬新台幣），她也感覺自己很幸運。不過陸媒也報導，雙方價格尚未談攏，因此目前這顆美樂珠還沒賣出。
而「美樂珠」又稱龍珠或火焰珠，無法透過人工養殖出產，只能在螺內自然生成，因此價格不斐。2003年香港一場拍賣會上，一顆重約20公克、相當於100.4克拉的美樂珠以270萬美元（約8230萬元台幣）成交，創下單顆珍珠成交的世界紀錄。
對於這樣天降寶珠的天大好事，瞬間掀起熱議，不少人羨慕忌妒恨，不過也有網友質疑現在的椰子螺大多是養殖的，不太可能產得出美樂珠，還有人酸「珠寶騙術」、「椰子螺滯銷，幫幫我們」、「應該又是個假消息，異想天開的事情，大家都去買椰子螺，有人笑得合不攏嘴了」。

- I think that the reason many people here interpret cats' expressions as contemptuous is that they don't realize the significance of partly-closed or slitted eyes. That might mean contempt coming from a human, but for a cat it is an expression of love and trust. If the cat can relax its eyes around you (and lower its vigilance), that means it is happy and affectionate.

[BBC News] A new study has shown that cats have up to 276 different facial expressions - some of which they share with humans. 😼
Researchers at University of California in Los Angeles have been investigating the different types of facial expressions cats use to communicate with each other.
Humans have around 44 unique facial movements, but their total number of expressions isn't known, so it’s hard to compare cats with us - but we do know that chimpanzees have around 357 unique expressions.
The team also found that cats have some expressions in common with humans - and think they may have picked them up from their 10,000 year history of living with us.

根據《都市日報》報導，德州聖體市（Corpus Christi）附近沙灘日前出現大量詭異生物，從照片中可以看到，該生物外型奇特，有如長了尾巴的眼球一般，墨西哥灣哈特研究所科學家圖納爾（Jace Tunnell）表示，該生物實際上是名為「Rhizophysa」的管水母生物，又被外界稱為「麵條怪」（Spaghetti Monsters）。

圖納爾解釋，「麵條怪」是由多個水母體及水螅體組合而成的群落，並非單一生物，體型較小，因此出沒時不容易被發現，主要生活於公海，每年3、4月有時會被沖上岸。圖納爾提醒，民眾若看到該生物別伸手觸碰，若不慎被螫傷刺痛感會持續約1個小時。

Rescuers save a football-sized swollen hedgehog
A hedgehog has had to be deflated by rescuers after swelling up to the size of a football.
The female hedgehog - which had got so big it was spotted from a bus - was found in a field in Gloucestershire.
She was then taken to a hedgehog rescue centre where she was diagnosed with balloon syndrome - caused by gas collecting under the skin.
The hedgehog was otherwise in good health and a needle was used to release some of the trapped air, successfully deflating her!
The hedgehog has now been named Bounce.

猿猴反而相對低了些
貓狗則是個體差異但平均值也不會在前段班
同樣給豬與猴子搖桿（街機那種）完電動，破關有食物
猴子完全不懂那是什麼，豬用鼻子推搖桿玩完遊戲拿到食物ww
烏鴉的用石頭將水面升高拿食物也是有研究的；雞則是有預期心理，比如說按一下按鈕一顆食物，按三下等一分鐘但可拿到六顆食物，他會選擇後者。
另外就是些模擬實驗，比如說砍傷實驗，用的是死豬而不是其他肉。
以前就有開玩笑說阿拉說穆斯林不可以吃豬肉是因為是同類ww
（目前聽到的好像都是「因為是雜食性動物」。）
- 猿猴（有尾）跟猩猩（無尾）還是有差啦，人類是猩猩這邊的
雖然無尾這邊還是有腦袋不好的（狒狒）
- 難免有進化失敗的www
想到之前一隻蘇門答臘紅毛猩猩使用植物植成的膏藥自行治療臉頰上的傷口。

水生甲蟲游泳模式的古代趨異演化
費卡契表示，牙蟲是一類主要生活在水生環境中的甲蟲，但大多數不會游泳，只有一支系具有游泳能力，休息時以倒立姿態停棲於水草或水面下，游泳時則展現2種截然不同的「泳姿」。部分牙蟲會先將身體翻正，以類似「狗爬式」利用後兩對腳划水前進，體型較修長，代表物種為流線型的貝牙蟲。另一種牙蟲則保持倒立狀態「仰式」游泳，僅使用中間兩隻腳來推進，體型接近半球型，代表物種為球牙蟲。
過往研究顯示，游泳在許多不同科的甲蟲是各自演化，非源於同一祖先。然而，費卡契研究團隊運用分子演化證據與微型斷層掃描分析，發現貝牙蟲與球牙蟲體內皆有一處相同的骨化構造，可以避免游泳時身體變形；但其他不會游泳的牙蟲則缺乏此一構造。
研究團隊以此關鍵性證據，推測牙蟲游泳模式均是從共同祖先獨立演化而來，顯示具有單一起源。費卡契亦強調，即使在牙蟲游泳的祖先型滅絕又缺乏化石證據的情況下，仍可藉此溯源推導牙蟲祖先型的游泳模式，並提出相關演化推論。
研究結果指出，半球型牙蟲多居住於睡蓮等水生漂浮植物密集的水域環境中，生活在植物根部相互交織的棲地可以保護牠們免受捕食者侵襲，然而牙蟲必須能夠靈活游動，半球型的身體能有效減少雙足擺動時的能量損耗，可使游動更穩定且機動性高。而採取狗爬式游泳的流線型牙蟲則生活在較開放的棲地，牠們暴露在捕食者面前，必須快速遊動才能逃離，牠們的身體較長，有助於提升游泳速度。
團隊發現，此兩類牙蟲的祖先可能擁有相同的游泳方式，但此類中間型物種已滅絕；現存的牙蟲則因環境壓力而發展出不同適應策略，各自朝速度最佳化或靈活度最佳化的方向特化。

Chelsea Wood explains, “The presence of anisakids is a sign that the fish came from a healthy ecosystem.” These parasites are a crucial part of the marine food chain:

全都跑到了自家的後院或公園到處挖呀挖呀挖
但他們不是在挖寶藏
而是在幫一隻母胎單身的「左旋蝸牛」徵婚
尋找他的命中註定的另一半
完全就是蝸牛版的「母胎單身戀愛大作戰」

或許你會好奇：「蝸牛明明這麼常見，要幫他找另一半會很難嗎？」
其實這個答案就藏在蝸牛殼的旋轉方向裡
原來大部分蝸牛的殼
都是順時針旋轉的右旋蝸牛
即便是全世界最常見的小灰蝸牛
每四萬隻中才會出現一隻左旋蝸牛
而蝸牛殼的旋轉方向
也同時影響了整隻蝸牛的體內構造與生殖器官
使得他們無法互相交配
因此除非能遇上另一個「四萬分之一的他」
否則這些「左旋蝸牛」就註定得母胎單身一輩子

直到上個月，這個「四萬分之一」的奇蹟真的出現在紐西蘭
《紐西蘭地理雜誌》的插畫家 Giselle 某天在整理家中花園時
意外發現了一隻長得很不一樣的蝸牛
因為之前 Giselle 曾經做過一篇與蝸牛相關的報導
因此在仔細觀察這隻鍋牛後
她立刻意識到這不是一隻普通蝸牛
而是一隻「左旋蝸牛」

馬祖藍眼淚近日爆量，美照在網路瘋傳，但有報導指出，這其實是大海「掉淚」的生態警訊，意味海洋環境處於比較不健康的狀況。不過海洋大學團隊研究發現馬祖「藍眼淚」中的發光生物之一就是「夜光蟲」，並指出夜光蟲會大量出現，為植物性浮游生物所誘發，非海域污染生物，不應視為有害的赤潮生物。
根據《KNOWING》報導，每年4月至9月馬祖出現渦鞭毛藻在夜間發出螢光，因將海水染成藍色，被當地人稱為藍眼淚。該現象其實是甲藻的生物發光現象，甲藻因感受到環境變化發出螢光。
甲藻大多分布在沿海口岸、河口或大陸棚淺水區，因該地有豐富的浮游生物，讓甲藻有充足的食物來源。研究指出，甲藻出現大量繁殖意味海洋中有大量的浮游生物，海洋環境比較不健康。因此，爆量的藍眼淚其實是個生態警訊。
研究指出，當甲藻繁殖過多形成赤潮時，藻類易附著在魚鰓上，造成魚類窒息死亡，而甲藻死亡後，會分解產生屍鹼和硫化氫，並滲出高濃度的氨、磷，這讓海水容易變質，對生態造成危害。
報導指出，馬祖出現藍眼淚，可能是因為中國沿海地區的水太肥了，產生優氧化現象。香港也有藍眼淚，研究指可能與當地農業污染嚴重有關，因此產生夜光藻，但大量觀光客到訪對當地居民造成嚴重困擾，還發生破壞環境、公物等行為。
不過海洋大學研究團隊在推動「馬祖海域海洋生態整體調查計畫」時，去年4月先在連江縣南竿鄉介壽澳口利用單離培養，發現螢光生物為夜光蟲，7月又在福澳港與介壽澳口周遭海域利用浮游生物網進行大規模樣本採集，再利用次世代定序技術，將不同螢光素氧化酶RNA定序出來，發現85.1％到97.2％的序列為夜光蟲所有，證明馬祖藍眼淚現象確實為夜光蟲所造成。
海大教授蔣國平說，初步證實夜光蟲會大量出現，是植物性浮游生物所誘發，為一自然界微生物食物網循環所致的物種交替現象，非海域污染生物，更不應該視為有害的赤潮生物。
這項計畫同時掌握了大量人工繁殖的關鍵技術，未來可發展人工「藍眼淚」，甚至透過長期觀測做出「藍眼淚預報」，利於促進觀光或文創產業。

不思議で神秘的なその光る様子は、普段は海の底にいる生き物なので、我々にその美しい光を見せてくれることはありません。
ウミホタル観察会ではウミホタルの生態を観察しやすいように、ウミホタルの泳ぐ様子や、生態の説明、なぜ光るのか？などガイド（ご縁の宿伊藤屋6代目番頭 伊藤善行）が丁寧に説明しながら、光る様子もご覧いただけます。
また観察会ではスマートフォンでの撮影もOKです。

観察が終わったウミホタルは海に戻すのが決まりです。この戻す時にウミホタルが一斉に光り、そして海へと帰って行く様子が感動的に美しいので、ぜひ御覧いただきたい一幕です。

[Educated Minds'] Sea otter moms don’t just protect their babies — they wrap them in the ocean’s softest crib.
A newborn sea otter pup is born floating, fluffy, and so buoyant it can’t dive.
Adorable, yes — but dangerously vulnerable.
So mothers use one of the most ingenious parenting tricks in the animal kingdom.
When a mom needs to hunt, she swims to a kelp forest and gently tucks her pup into the long ribbons of kelp — creating a natural baby blanket anchored to the ocean floor.
The kelp canopy acts like a crib, holding the pup in place as it bobs safely on the surface.
While the baby squeaks and naps, rocking with the tide, the mother dives beneath the waves in search of clams, crabs, and sea urchins.
Then she returns, checks her bundle, and begins grooming with fierce precision.
For sea otters, grooming isn’t just affection — it’s survival.
Their fur traps air, creating insulation so effective they don’t need blubber.
A clean pup stays warm.
A warm pup stays alive.
Sometimes entire rafts of otters gather together in the kelp — dozens of moms and pups linked by holding paws or anchoring themselves to the same kelp forest.
It looks peaceful.
It’s also brilliant.
The kelp keeps them from drifting away, even in rough seas.
These mothers are tiny, tough heroes, carrying, cleaning, teaching, and feeding their young around the clock.
And when the ocean gets wild, the kelp blanket keeps hope from drifting into the waves.
Fun Fact:
Sea otter fur is the densest of any animal on Earth — up to one million hairs per square inch.
